The Versailles Sessions

Dear friends.

Just posted a new track from the upcoming The Versailles Sessions CD/LP, which is a commission turned album. It was done for the 2007 Les Grandes Eaux Nocturnes festival that takes place @ the Versailles castle each year during the summer. This work is entirely derived from a recording session we did in paris with musicians specialized in baroque music and instruments.

It'll be released first in France (available @ Versailles and other castles only) in september by GetSound, and it will be re released worldwide by The Leaf Label later this year.

This is a special release, so it breaks away from the m-u-r-c-o-f nomenclature, the next in the m-u-r-c-o-f series will be called Océano, more info soon...

cheers!

I think... Just a second... Yup, I just creamed my pants.

I'm particularly looking forward to his Océano album. Cosmos was a bit of a letdown the first time I listened to it, because I was a bit disappointed by the fact that it wasn't more like his older works, but after listening to the album under the correct circumstances (under the night sky) I was blown away. I also saw him live in Berlin (he played in a huge planetarium - amazing!) earlier this year. The visuals were not by XX+XY as they usually are, but instead it was the planetarium's night sky footage. It was so minimalistic and it moved ever so slow but damn it was beautiful!

He has just uploaded a track from the upcoming Versailles EP on his myspace

If anyone wants this track in better quality ( 192kbps ) then here you go:

Death Of A Forest is nice

very Giacinto Scelsi-esque, wouldn't be suprised if he even sampled him

Cosmos doesn't seem to grow on me. I always liked Cometa and I did listen to it under the nightsky when I played it the first time, on my way home next to some freight train tracks, but it worked. Oort was such a disappointment though. I was looking forward to it most, due to its playtime and due to the final tracks on Remambranza and Martes being my two favourite tracks by him.... I'm going to use this 1337 download-myspace-trick on the new one and give it a listen later, I need a shower first, I carried a carseat home from the scrapyard and am covered in motor oil and lambskin bits.

Thanks for the heads-up- glad I visited!

I know he has done (or is doing) a some soundtrack work as well- not sure if and when it will be released, but I'm looking forward to hearing that as well.

If it wasn't for all the bugs I'd actually put on Cosmos and climb up on my roof and watch the stars later tonight. Fucking bugs.

Terpentintollwut, you should hear a mix I've done with some of the tracks from Cosmos, Urano (from Utopia) and some Cliff Martinez tunes. I've only added the parts that really work from Cosmos and I have to say that THAT really works. I'll upload it here later.

curious what would be the final part of murcof sequence and what he'll do with alias after F-album

Martes, Utopia, Remembranza, Cosmos, Oceano,

pretty

Even his tracks are ordered by the letters from "Murcof".

yeah, so the last track on an album goes by next album's first letter. last song on F-album might be M-song again to the funny effect. not to say that often a name mirrors content somehow. not so sure about the first two, but Remembranza and Cosmos were alike given theme very much.

I'm not sure how he went from U to R? The last track on Utopia was Ultimatum so there's a bit of a plothole there, but apart from that you're absolutely right about the last track of each albums gives a clue as to what the next album will be entitled.

Apart from making awesome music he's a really nice guy as well.

Is this out yet?

Only if a few castles, lol. I guess nobody bothered seeding it yet... Leaf is supposed to release it worldwide later, though.

Yes that was great. The beginning sounds like The Shining soundtrack.

didn't like the versailles sessions at first, but after a couple of listens it's a captivating little album, which will do nicely when waiting for oceano, which will probably be epic.
