The new unofficial BoC pages

Recommended Posts

After days of migrating and redesigning the wiki, all is finished now!

The new unofficial boc pages are online @ http://fredd-e.narfum.org/boc/

The dawn of a new era! All feel free to help making the wiki even more comprehensive, edit mistakes or give feedback about anything.

Great work. Very organized and a lot cleaner.

My only suggestion would be to make the font a little bigger and the line-height larger.

Also, the server is a little slow, but I'm fine with that.

Thank you.

Did you watch in IE or in Firefox? I assume in IE because I just recently saw that the css renders a bit different (how could it be otherwise *sigh*) in both browsers (luckily over 60% uses Firefox on my boc pages). But I've fixed that now. The menu bar shouldn't look scrambled in IE now. It's almost the same as in Firefox. Good enough at least! :)

And the server could've been slow indeed, because since the launch I've seen a huge increase in page hits. Check my usage stats. Especially 25th of August. A lot more hits/pageviews/traffic generated due to the announcement.

Any more feedback? All is appreciated to improve the wiki: content-wise or css-wise etc.

Only had a brief look so far Fredd-E, but from that I'd say it's excellent. I agree that it's much cleaner and tidier and is an attractive looking site (I'm using Firefox 3). I can't remember seeing the list of remixes on the old site (sorry if I missed them there) whic is a useful page.

Job well done I'd say, nice work.

pretty cool m8, one thing tho, after all these years wtf dont you just buy a proper domain name for it, lol its really annoying.

a proper domain name... as a matter of fact, it's actually a great idea.. hadn't really thought about it before.. ;)

any suggestions?

  1. www.bocpages.be
  2. www.bocwiki.be
  3. www.boardsofcanadiki.be
  4. www.bociki.be
  5. ...
One of the first two options?! I dunno..

I rather stick to my narfum.org hosting. It's a fine host and one of my friends. And I don't want to fall back to subdomains again.

I'd rather have something easy and short. It's going to be www.bocpages.org -- people have always called them the boc pages so it seems to be the best choice ;)

you could call it bocuma (boc documa ~= "boc documentation")

that's actually a nice suggestion, but I've already registered bocpages.org so that one will soon be available on the internets

Nice work. Not sure if I evr visited your old site. Clearly you've been a lot more productive than BoC themselves. Although hopefully some time in the (not to) distant future maybe ......... just maybe you'll have some news to upload about a new, dare I say it, BoC release!! Imagine the hysteria.

Very nice. Renders fine in Safari (in case you were wondering).

Would be even better if you had a new album to talk about.

I was viewing it in Firefox. It looks great now.

I have one more suggestion - you might want to clean up the menubar.

Here are a couple of things you might want to consider taking out:

  • I noticed that the Labels link is a little redundant since all of the labels are listed in the Websites category. Only the SKAM link on the Labels page leads to an article about the label. The rest of the labels link to blank/placeholder pages.
  • The Recent Changes page looks pretty cluttered. Although I'm proud of all of the changes on the site, there is a RSS feed for the site already. (Speaking of - the RSS page is also pretty cluttered :wink2: )

Thanks for your feedback. And you're absolutely right about he Labels section. I was thinking about it as well yesterday. So I've decided to remove it out of the list. Much better indeed.

But what about the Recent Changes then? It's a special page part of Mediawiki. It keeps track of all the changes on the wiki. And right now there are a lot of changes, simply because I've been really busy changing LOTS of pages indeed... the system counted over 1200 changes the last week... no wonder that it's cluttered? ;-)

Once the major changes are gone, you'll see only more 'meaningful' changes to the wiki... you could also filter out the minor changes by using the options... This link for instance takes out minor edits and edits by logged in users (which will hide for example all my edits made..). Less cluttered now? ;)

Great job Fredd-E - very well organized, informative, and nice layout!

If only my webhost wouldn't have the flu atm! I'm dying to get www.bocpages.org online but I need him to change some vhost and dns settings, gah! ;)

Congratulations! And thanks for all the hard work, it was well worth it.

It's great you'll be back in active team. You've made numerous additions/changes in the past; that's appreciated a lot.

If there's any extension you'd love to be installed on this wiki let me know and I'll add it.

And besides we do have lots of Categories... or is it something else you mean?

Anyways there's still lots to do on the wiki... a wiki is never finished unfortunately. So all the help is greatly appreciated. If you browse around you can see I made lots of changes already regarding content and looks. The Bunker and Help:Editing could need some changes tho, so that everything really works like written on the page. Any contribution is appreciated.

/cheers

Cheers, excellent work on the new site. Very slick.

One question: What happened to the wealth of random information in the WIKI pages of the old site? Topics such as the Red Moon events, the background info on the Alphaquest mix of ROYGBIV, etc.

It's all there. Nothing has been removed. On the contrary, all the info from the old boc pages has been migrated to the wiki.

Check here:

Also if you register on the wiki you get a lot of useful links on the special pages: http://bocpages.org/wiki/Special:SpecialPages

One nice example to find the "hidden" content you get from these special pages: http://bocpages.org/wiki/Special:LonelyPages
