Sequencing Rebirth with FL Studio

Recommended Posts

This is probably retarded but:

I would like to be able to sequence Rebirth when I'm using it with FL Studio via Rewire, but this is going to be difficult or not possible at all right? It already says 'Rebirth Audio Input' when I select the appropriate channel in FL.

So what's the best workaround for this problem? Perhaps it is better to use another program or VST for 808s and 909s etc? Should I just record the audio in rebirth (ie. record the different patterns and then sample them in FL)? That is gonna be a frustrating way to do it I reckon? Should I give up or should I just keep chasing pavement?

Thanks

i don't know a lot about rewire, but there are some really good 303, 808 and 909 emulators for buzz that you can use with the buzz machine adaptor in fl. have a look for 'rout 808', 'rout 909' and 'voidbass'/'voidbass II'.

don't think it can be done - you can sync them up via midi so Rebirth is triggered when you hit play in FLoops and stays in time etc, but you'd have to write the sequences to be triggered in Rebirth er, in Rebirth.

Thanks, I just downloaded and installed Buzz, I can't really find out how to get it to work with FL Studio though. Do I need to copy a dll file to the VST folder of FLS? I tried that to no avail and I wasn't able to find much info in the manual of Buzz on getting it to work with other programs.

Yeah, I wish they'd make some kind of VST of Rebirth or something.

Get Asynth or Taurus for freeware bass synths, you can make patches that sound very similar to 303 if not better specially with Taurus with reverb, for 909 and 808 just get samples or buy Nepheton and or Drumazon.

Those are very good VSTs, cheers.

I'm facing another problem right now though. I can't seem to automate Nepheton, FL Studio will just hang when I try.

Also, is there a way to save the patch you have made in Drumazon, because everytime I reopen it, I have to twiddle all the knobs again, and this doesn't seem the case in Nepheton.

It's a bit confusing I know, in short:

- Can't automate Nepheton

- Don't know how to save Drumazon patches

By the way, is FL Studio 8 better CPU wise? I have a dual-core cpu that in theory can easily handle every VST I'm using so far, but it lags as fuck. Already have read Image-Line's instructions on how to optimize performance, it helped somewhat, but not quite enough.

Some people recommend saving your instruments including effects as .wav files, but as I keep changing everything all the time, it's not the right workaround for me.

PS: The way automation works in FL studio really does my head in! Drawing envelopes in DAWs like Ableton has a much more intuitive feel to it imo, but I could be missing something. I also don't like the fact that the automation envelopes are in another screen in FL.

er, they're not. the automation envelopes are directly underneath the sequencer window in arrangement view. so you can see where you're painting in your envelope adjustments in relation to which part of your tune. floops is one if the easiest most straightforward DAWs out there man, ain't nothing that ain't simple in there....

Yeah, I mean it's in that window underneath, but in Ableton it's simply on top of the clip, which in my opinion is more logical.

I do love FL, but I need to grasp how those automation points essentially work, because I find them a bit weird (they get the job done nonetheless)
