External Hard Drives

its been recommended i get one of these, what exactly do i need it for if at all?

good for backups, if your main HDD dies. easy to transport if needed at gigs or someshit. extra storage always comes in handy.

what he said basically, I always think if there is ever a fire I need to grab my external so I still have my tracks lol, or my laptop but I mostly thought this before I had a laptop.

i understand all of that, but what do i put on there, all my music apps, samples, work, VSTs, or everything?

samples and work.

i'd keep software on the internal drive.

that way it reads samples quicker, in theory. if you keep the drive clean.

I usually back up everything music related, song files, samples I may have used, program install files, VSTs, my whole "Music Production" folder basically. lol
