Guest Ministry of Undos
Hi everybody. Hopefully I'm not making a redundant first post, I've done a search and everything... I just nabbed a TR-707 on eBay. Excellent! Sadly I got shot of my loyal 101 a few months ago (it had some issues and went to someone who was capable of fixing them). With the 707 on board I'm all set to Roland myself up again but I was wondering: Is there any way of controlling the 101 from the 707? I'm thinking using an unwanted individual output to trigger the arpeggiator, something like that? I've got a Bassstation Rack from years back that would let me run the 101 via its CV/Gate converters, but I'm curious as to whether it'd be necessary as there's a certain allure to cutting the Bassstation out of the equation. Presumably a 202 would allow for DIN syncing with the 707, which is another option. For now I'm going to hook up to a Microkorg and Micron and see which I like the best. Technically it ought to be the Micron but there's something about the rubber controls that I don't really like, and for all their convenience there's something slightly shifty about knobs that turn forever. Well, any help greatly appreciated. I'm thinking in terms of connectivity and space I might be better off going for a 202. Guest Gloom Nox
There is loads you can do with just the 707 and the 101. Rim shot trigger out on the 707 connected to the EXT. CLOCK on the SH-101 lets you control the internal sequencer and the arpeggiator. Every time a rimshot is played in your 707 it triggers one step from your SH-101 sequence, (which you programme with LOAD) Set your SH-101 in PLAY mode and you're off. If you experiment with this you could soon master quite complex sequences (tip: use rest and legato) and you're in acid heaven and you don't need an MC-202. You're better off with this actually.
