Synecdoche, New York

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Synecdoche, New York may just be the two movies that will save 2008 from being a complete disaster when it comes to movies. I'm definitely looking forward to this one!

love how big the set for his play gets, really want to see this.

In a shot, you can see that the warehouse actually is contained... within an even bigger warehouse. Looks fascinating

Plus, the girls in this movie are cute! ...except from Diane Wiest. Christ, she has looked the same the last 200 years.

I'm a massive fan of Charlie Kaufman and I'm hoping this is going to be something really special.

i like charlie kaufman and i will see this, but the trailer didn't amaze me. i can't even tell what the movie is about.

synecdoche connect-a-me, metonomy not on-a-me

A guy wants to do something special before he dies and builds a huge set inside an old warehouse and he ends up building a part of New York... I think?

I'm not super excited about this because it didn't seem to garner as much... or any buzz from Cannes. i was expecting rave reviews from there, but it didn't seem to stir much up surprisingly. And with a cast like this headed by arguably the best actor in the industry next to Daniel Day Lewis and a writer as brilliant as Kaufman, how did it not get buzz?

I think the resolution on the YouTUbe is better than the Yahoo one.

Yahoo is all pixelated and has loads of compression artifacts...

Anyways, the story looks pretty interesting. And i just learned what synechdoce means, so that's neat.

ok the trailer gives almost no hint at what the real plot is, but in true Kaufman fashion, Philip Seymour Hoffman creates a scale model of New York inside a warehouse complete with real people. oh yeah.

I dunno how you can get less pretentious than that actually....;) Hollywood stars on the red carpet doesn't really equal high-brow intellectualism right? Or does it? I'm so confused....

pretentious would have been if he'd mentioned the Berlin film festival, or the Vienna one. Those are the daddies of pretention.
