Plundering Logic

Recently I've had an extreme craving to use Logic's proprietary synths (Sculpture, EFM1, etc...) outside of the program and within another DAW - Ableton Live, specifically - so that I may play them in a live situation using a more sophisticated live sequencer. Now as you may or may not know, the developers dont seem to like the idea of someone using these synths outside of the program and therefore you may only use them within Logic or Mainstage. My question is this: Does anyone know what it would take or how to go about extracting these programs for use outside of Logic? The developers have made some truly fantastic synths and it's a shame to see them gather dust while all of the other VSTs get to go out and play shows.

It would be one of my favorites if I had the computing power to run several iterations of it, but my PowerBook isn't that powerful. Alas, it goes unused unless it's one of the last things I add.

i've gotten myself into the habit of mixing down cpu hungry synths as i go along. usually not compressing or eqing them before mixdown, and leaving the audio file for eq and compression. this is the only way ive made workable songs with that synth.

do you use logic to make your tracks?

Yeah, ever since my PC died, I've been writing in Logic. I go back and forth about when I want certain things to come in as well as when I want to add a new line by a synth, so exporting audio or freezing tracks doesn't really help me out. It kind of gets in the way of the creative process for me.

I would just rather have a crazy powerful computer and have everything open all the time.

i still wish you could just take an old computer, hook it up over ethernet, and use it as a dedicated VST slave... not sure if ethernet has the sort of latency that'd require offhand, but i'd say chances are good as long as bit torrent is closed.

is there any way to do that?

I was speaking with a friend about this today and he suggested using Soundflower to route the audio into my program of choice or simply use rewire between the two. Though this is a viable work-around it might have latency or simply bog down the power of my computer, which is a big turn off since Sculpture requires too much power in the first place.

you could do it the simple way and et a cheap soundcard for the computer 2, and just link them up via midi, then have the outputs from that computer going to a desk. You could mix onto computer 1 when happy, and you could have as many computers as you want this way. all the big softwares have plugin delay compensation...

I may try it out for fun..
