Utp [DVD+CD Limited Edition]

released in july 2008

Nice package from japan featuring : new music from alva noto & r.sakamoto with the ensemble modern (strings etc), recorded in 2007 in mannheim. expensive (60$) but the whole stuff is great (DVD [5.1 & stereo versions] of the show + CD audio + 2 booklets). the greatest thing must be to follow the concert with the booklet in hand, reading the whole partition (score). the music is pretty nice too. even more minimal than their previous recordings. with some classical instruments. its kind of a academic (or romantic) version of drones, static music. with the abstract animated graphix on the screen you just think of the last scene of 2001, played at a very slow motion.

quite funny to read on the score "white noise" at some times & hearing indeed very delicate sounds of "white noise" (i was expecting merzbow bursts!). everything is described on the booklet, meaning you feel but also understand the whole recording.

probably difficult to track down but its definitely a great release.

Bought this from Boomkat last week for £17.99, can't wait for it to arrive - the samples sound incredible.

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

been waiting for a Raster noton 5.1 release, will be sure to pick this up.

Man, Murcof must be ashamed of himself for releasing that Baroque bullshit also called The Versailles Sessions when a beautiful album like this comes around.
