What would you put on a mix for someone who was unfamiliar with RDJ?

Last March, this guy came over and saw my framed Analord 10 picture disc and was curious about what it was. I played him a little bit and tried to explain why I thought it was the most brilliant music on earth but I was a bit drunk and probably sounded like a moron.

Anyway, since then, I've thought about that exchange quite a bit and figured I would make a mix that had a well rounded and impressive selection of RDJs work.

The challenge is that this guy is an AMAZING jazz guitarist and doesn't have much of an ear for anything but jazzbands.

What do you people think?

I know I want to put "Blue Calx", "Alberto Balsam", "Windowlicker" and "Box Energy (Remix)" on there. So suggest some others besides those.

look @ all your twin records and pick a few of the tracks from each that you think are the best and explain to the guy how his sound developed over different eras. even if he doesnt like it chances are he'll appreciate the creativity. but seriously the best way to get someone to like something is to tell them they wont

well if your friend is open minded it shouldn't matter. But if he is an artistic cunt bag super head up his ass Jazz worshiper, and your trying to impress him in anyway what so ever... then just put on Girl/Boy song, and his ideas of the complexities of jazz will wither.

And he will soon realize that RDJ's butthole is the only music his ears should be fucking.

I was/am a very serious guitarist when I first got into aphex twin. I got into teh twins by fingerbib and pretty much all of drukqs. I thought ICBYD everything before that and most of the RDJ album was pretty laughable even though I don't think that now at all.

drukqs seems like a must. I think his later stuff seems better suiting then his earlier techno/rave type tracks.

an old friend of mine that i most successfully turned onto electronic music / experimental electronic told me back in the day something like :" why didn't you turn me on to the rdj album first?"

RDJ album. hands down. don't even bother trying to give him anything else.

If you were going for the development, you could include Bucephalus Bouncing Ball or Hangable Auto Bulb towards the end (and include some Polygon Window-tracks at the beginning, no?). Chances are he won't like it, but the non linearity could get him to listen to it more attentively while on the other hand some elements of the RDJ album could be missed on the first listen.

The thing is, most people don't realize how brilliant RDJ's music is until they listen to other artists from the same genre. It's only when people hear other bedroom producers or amateur artists just fucking around with weird effects, then they see RDJ has created a sound that cant be duplicated. Its just so much more organic than anything else in the same genre.
