Guest catsonearth
both tracks are cool at their cores, interesting samples and chopping/editing. the first track...when the beat comes in it's a bit of a let down. the main sample has this awesome, lazy swing to it, but the beat doesn't play on that strength, so it sounds a bit stiff. it sounds like you were trying to do a somewhat unconventional rhythm, which i think the track does need, but the beat you've got now doesn't suit the track. personally, i'd say go for more of a twisted take on a southern bounce style beat to play off that wonky circus-y sample that forms the base of the track. but maybe that's just me. the second track has a lush melody that works really well with the jazzy, ride-heavy drums. i wouldn't do anything to what you have already personally, but since i think a lot of your tracks end before they've really hit their stride, i'd suggest maybe skip ahead in your sequencer to after your song stops and start constructing a new track using the exact same samples and tempo that you've already got...then maybe if you come up with something you like, find a way to bridge those two sections together and make them flow into each other. beneboi
i completely agree about the drums in the first one, i had tapped out a bd line with more swing but for some reason scratched it for something more straightforward, its definitely a placeholder until i come up with something that fits better. im currently writing more interesting/more developed melodies to carry the second track further, just thought i would share these as they are. thanks for the comments cats!! Berk
I like both tracks so far. The snares in the first one are a bit too much, and the choppy intro in the second track is not exactly my thing (especially because I want to go to bed in a few minutes lol). I can hear that the overall 'foundations' of both tracks are good. Zephyr_Nova
Listening to deededfdf right now. Do you know what the proper term for this sort of rhythm is? (that can be counted as either a super fast 6/8 or 4/4?) Is there one? Anyway, I like that rhythm, and have never written a song with it myself. I'm not a big fan of the synth sounds on this one, but I like the idea. Nice stereo spread. Checking out eerie. Now this one's got some nice sounds. I like the background textures, arpeggio melodies... it's alittle bit trip hop and a little bit cinematic, appropriate for the season. This would fit in well with one of the old Halloween movies. Humphry: I like the blend of organic instruments here and where they sit spatially. It sounds like a loop still waiting for a lead melody and arrangement, or rap vocals as may be the case. But I like the loop itself. I downloaded your album zip, will listen when I've got some time. posture
Also, someheat is so fucking hot, though i agree with the drums needing some tweaking. But everything else oh man, the shit. erichodge
someheat: very enjoyable... love the drums, the pace, the SPACE... the horns and voices go very well.. quite a nice piece of work. softguitar: i didn't really like how the guitar was all cut up... just a stylistic differences.... but i like this track. its kind of poppy i guess, but its emotional evocative and nice... full, lustrous even. very nice once again! progresses very nicely all the way through. deededfdf: not really my style. 8-bit beginning doesn't sit well with me. it becomes quite a full sounding track and then when the beat meshes in, i start to like it all more. as the track goes on in general, i like it more. would like to hear to next cut. eerie320: TOTALLY your style... if i had just heard this without knowing who made it, i'd think it was yours. fantastic track. humphry: nice, but not a whole lot of variation or dynamic range. stilk: hot track. loving this. its really fucking good... very different and cool... there isn't anything at all i would change Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide erichodge's signature Hide all signatures -------- http://www.innerfuze.com Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/38788-two-works-in-progress/#findComment-854511 Share on other sites
