volunteer needed

As you know, WATMM/EKT has a lot of creative talent just sloshing around. Projects like P168, Futonic compilations, and the rest, motivate people to fire up their software or dust off their synths and create something. Which has to be a good thing.

So I've been helping to organise the WATMM Monthly Remix Competition for a couple of months (see here, here, etc) but I'm going travelling in November for four months so I wont be able to carry on.

If anyone would like to take over (starting from Round 4 which should start in a week or two) then PM me or post in this thread. If several people want to do it, then you can sort it out amoungst yourselves.

The role consists of:

- once every four or five weeks making a thread to ask for submissions

- collecting and anonymising the submissions

- uploading them to watmm or another host

- occasionally spamming people to remind them to submit

- creating a poll thread

- contacting the winner to get their choice of song for the next round

Applicants for the post should have:

- poll making ability - I think you need to be an 'EKT Plus' or 'Knob Twiddlers' member for that?

- ability to close your own threads - not sure which member classes have that. Maybe all of them

- hosting space (for the zip files of tracks) or attachment space at WATMM

- time enough to post the threads, anonymise or organise the tracks (about 5 hours per month)

or, alternatively

- a ready made website that can do all this stuff. But remember the old english proverb "a live hosted website is worth eight that are nearly finished"

The renumeration package is:

- you get to hear the tracks first, and know who did them before everyone else

- a framed, autographed picture of essines *

- a warm fuzzy feeling from being the midwife to watmm's creativity offspring

(you'll have to wait till round 3 is finished)

monthly is too often to get decent quality and maintain interest. 2 or 3 times a year would be better.

nah thats way too seldom, this way we get more variety in tracks to remix. Maybe semi-monthly at the most

yeah I was thinking along those lines. People often dont enter a round because they dont like the track. So if the rounds are frequent, there's more variety to get people interested.

On the other hand, if they are too frequent, people can't get it together even if they want to. And it takes more effort to organise a frequent one.

Ok, well people aren't exactly falling over each other to volunteer for this, so plan B is:

-We put the remix competition on hold until January

-In January we announce the start of Round 4, with a deadline at the end of March

-At the end of March I am back and can organise the tracks and post the polls as usual

Unless anyone else wants to organise this thing, I guess I'll go with that.

edit: Look like we're going with the pause before Round 4.

I'll close this thread and start a new one, but if anyone does feel like organising the competition while I'm away, please PM me.
