ricardo villalobos - vasco EP part 1

i was very skeptical of villalobos for a very long time, dismissing his stuff as background chatter for k-holes. but i must admit i really like this ep (and i liked achso very much too).

minimoonstar is a nice exercise in restraint, and when he finally starts bringing in the more melodic loops, it's just fabulous.

the shackleton remix shows why he might be my favourite dubstep producer. again more restraint, with dub echo effects and much more minimal (lol) percussion. almost like an orb track.

electronic water sounds like villalobos trying to do dubstep, in his usual clicky poppy scratchy thing, and the remix of it is nice dancefloor fodder

so yesh, a nice release.

I've been thinking about getting this, his fabric mix was one thing that got me really burned out on minimal but I liked fizheuer and the au harem a lot. some of the previews are tempting, is this more on the chill side or the odd side of things?

is there a separate thread for the vasco cd? album of the year.

i ordered it from juno like over two weeks ago and it looks like it must have been lost in transit, cuz it hasn't arrived yet :(

the 31 minute version of vasco is beautiful. not normally a word you associate with sweaty k-head minimal djs. but it is.

on quite a villalobos kick atm

finally got the vasco cd as well, after it being in transit for like 3 weeks. absolutley top banana the whole cd, especially the minimoonstar track. beautiful. got also the sei es drum LP and that is probably one of villalobos better works lately. he definatley has created his own sound and does what ever he the fuck wants (some of it might turn out to be quite weak and self-indulgent, but when he hits the mark it's awesome)

shit i still do absolutely need this somehow.
