Submitting to labels

Is there any point in me submitting my music to labels outside of the country I live in?

It's just that there is a lot about getting signed to a label that I do not know. For instance, if I were to become successful and a label wanted to have me on board would I be expected to actually travel overseas to be signed up?

i doubt you would have to travel overseas if you did't want to, but say you did get signed to a record label in the uk, it would probably be advantageous to do a few uk and european gigs to promote your work....i'm sure any record label that asked you to do that would pay all your expenses though....

i've made contracts with canadians on the postal way. took a few weeks, especially since it turned out that something important has been unclear. there were no cost at all for me from the point when they wanted the deal. make sure you fit the label and don't plan to get something back from the initial sending.

before signing the giveaway of your stuff... make sure you got everything nailed you want, including your money. i've also never spent a single buck to people who wanted "partly investigations" or something. if you dont know the label, ask them. if their interest is real, they'll provide you with the essentials.

a label worth "signing" to (i.e. legally bound to release on that label and only that label and owing them X ammount of releases for X ammount of money) would likely be able to either mail you a contract to sign and or fly out to you or fly you out to them.

generally the problems arn't so much in the logistics of actually signing their contract as in getting to the point where a real label wants to sign you in the first place.

  • 3 weeks later...

ok i know i haven't really done shit in the world of accomplished musicmaking, so consider me thusly disclaimed...

BUT...

theologically, wouldn't it just be best to focus 100% on the actual music and fuckall to the whole label thing, cuz if you're consciously thinking of what label you're going to do and where and why and logistics and this and that, really, doesn't that kind of make your music at least 1% disingenuous, which then becomes the chaos effect in that you're doing this for a living as opposed to for the actual love of it, which might not manifest itself immediately, but eventually shall cascade akin to the domino effect to becoming a boring stagnant "career oriented" hack of a musician!?@

none of this is personal, to disclaim again... it just seems like a stupid question some sort of moron like myself would ask, so i'm trying to see the light here =D
