Was there too.

(major spoil, don't click if you don't want to be bothered)

I've never seen him before, but i think there's some changes since the hello everything gigs (according to the video of hello meow on youtube.)

He added a big screen behind... the drummer which respond to his bass signal (which was a pretty awesome stuff)

He played like 7 or 8 new songs from JAS :

- Star Time 2 (with drummer)

- The Coathanger

- A Real Woman (with drummer)

- Delta-V (with drummer)

- Potential Govaner

- Tensor In Green (with drummer)

- The Glass Road (with drummer)

...and some classic stuffs like Squarepusher's Theme, hello meow, come on my selector...

It last for about an an hour and a half.

Check it out:

We've been to Austria, Graz in Non-stop Kino.

I can honestly say, Autechre in march and Squarepusher in November were the best shows reaching far back into my history. Our delegacy consisted of a herd of uncontrolled maniacs, deranged party animals, and night-idyl disturbers. Squarepusher kinda re-revived my inner punk soul. lol We've been mainly screaming, head-slamming, pushing ourselves around the floor etc. I adored the live drummer, solid sound system, and Tom Jenkinson personally :) It was really intense. And afterparty in Postgarage was one of the best too. A geek DJ with glasses showed an amazing selection of mashups, the other guy played some really proper electro, and on final hour a proper acid house set that really shot me in the skies. Superb event. Viva-la-Graz!!!

Yeah! He improvised on his bass guitar during Reedham I think. It was rad!

kanarie did you also stay to see Mary Anne Hobbs and Milanese and stuff?

edit: those T-shirts were wicked, but I wasn't sure I wanted to spend 20 euros again on a simple T-shirt, I should've bought one though

Not sure if it has been the same set, I think there were some unreleased track at the end bit though!

The T-shirts are form fitting, colours ranging from dark green, yellow, red(? not sure). With that digitalized Squarepusher font on front. There were also T-shirts with "Behold the Coathanger!" written on it and an image of a coathanger in that same digitalized style.

He started off with Startime 2 (I believe the Coathanger wasn't even played btw), then played some more tracks from the new album. After a few tunes, the live drummer joined him and they played an extended version of that track that was on the guardian website, also A Real Woman and some more tracks. They had some lengthy jam sessions that were sometimes too long imo.

Then the drummer left for a few electronic Go Plastic-ish tracks, can't remember all of them. He joined again in the middle of Come on My Selector. And they played another couple of tracks.

They were finished and the audience was going wild, Tom and the drummer left, Tom came back after a few minutes and played some acid/gabba, fast stuff, was going mental on his bass (used it for messing about with all his synths and weird noises were coming out, it was really cool). Last track was Reedham, it was awesome.

I think it's a shame that he didn't play Borgnine or Tundra or The Exploding Psychology etc. I don't like the new album that much

Also, does anybody have a soundboard recording? cheers!

i did see mary anne hobbs for a minute but after squarepusher my brains had had quite enough to digest:) besides i had to catch a train back to utrecht with my friends, had to get up sort of early the next day.

yeah i hadn't bought the album yet so i thought let's go for the shirt:)

ps the shirts were dark grey / yellow print, yellow / dark grey print, and there were red and green ones (can't remember what colour the printing on those were). On the front there is "behold the coathanger" and a coathanger image in starsign style, on the back there is a small squarepusher logo like the one in phudoshin's sig.

Guest plangplang

ya back from Berlin

it was a very fun time there. Bit cold, but hey. Berlin is fucking great, and i've met some old friends which i haven't seen in 4 years, we had a great time!

the Pusher gig:

Volksbühne is a big theatre house, and the athmosphere was nice and cosy. For the gig, the stage was pushed back, so the audience was actually on the stage.... er makes sense? At the entrance you got a red plastic wristband and the bouncers were lazy, so we managed to sneak in 2 friends (it was sold out).

MOHA! were pretty good imo. we were sitting right in front of them on the floor... they had some strong floodlights and fluorescent tubes on stage which were synced to the music. Tight, loud and crisp, plus superbright flashing lights.

So it was the first time i've seen Tom live, the expectations were high.... and i didn't quite enjoy it for a while. I found it a bit awkward that he had his rig of laptops and some other gear right in front of him, so he could hide behind the desk... press play on laptop, then noodle the bass guitar (and his bass playing is much better on studio stuff) wow what a sight. Also, the crowd wasn't very responsive. Star Time 2 and Hello Meow, i stopped dancing when i noticed nobody else did.

But then it got better and better! i think the 3rd song was one unreleased Bangface thing, and then it progressed into the postrock JAS stuff, which was pretty fucking good. Tensor In Green, Glass Road, Planet Gear, Delta V... was really intense. uhh... i don't really remember what came after that, but Come On My Selector was pretty cool (with weird bass solo part)

Modern Bass Guitar, great

Anstrom Feck 4, dunno... he was muting the track with a foot pedal and noodled the bass.

some unreleased breacore/Gabba thing, and yeah hopefully this will make it for the Numbers Lucent EP, cuz it was good.

another unreleased track with funky cheesy 90s synth chord stabs, highly enjoyable (but was probably the same track as above).

and Journey to Reedham was really funky.

At some moments he made some wailing sustained prog sound on his bass for a couple of seconds, i would have loved more of that! Some balls out jam with the drummer would have been so awesome.

Overall i preferred the tracks where Tom wasn't playing bass but making awesome facial expressions and gestures to support the music running on his computers.

if this sounds all too negative, IT WASN'T! was a great gig, i just wanted to point out some stuff i didn't enjoy too much. The visuals were pretty great too i think. But they also got much better during the second half....
