Nord Micro Modular or Dave Smith Mopho

Recommended Posts

i'm looking to get a synth module today and i'm torn between these, about the same price, but will the Mopho give me more diverse sounds, or should i stick with the classic Nord modular sound? been dying to buy a Nord (and love the virtual patch bay), but not if i can get more bang for my buck out of the Mopho.

you can get a much wider range of sounds from the nord - almost limitless patching configurations so can do pretty much any type of sound you want. i would buy the mopho though coz it's analogue and got a cool sequencer.

more sounds from a mopho(technically yes if you buy into the continuous nature of analog synths) but not more RANGE of sounds. I think id get the mopho though.

i went ahead and got the Nord in excellent condition on ebay for $280. i figured the Mopho is still in production, so i can get one in a few months. thanks for the advice guys.

excellent choice... youll be happy with it!

What's the advantage of analog modeling over true analog. I just don't get it.

no real advantages as such - as analogue wings said, it's cheaper and less hassle for manufacturers to produce mainly. it's technically more stable than true analogue in terms of pitch and tone, but the new analogue stuff made now is just as stable really....i suppose it's more versatile so lots of different kinds of synth sounds and characteristics can be produced from just one synth, but that's not necessarilly an advantage...dunno really, i guess it's just more profitable to make....
