posture
I'd like something that sounds more like the classic speech synthesis stuff, more robotic or computer sounding. I'm not a huge fan of the newer speech synthesis voices you find on online text to speech sites. Thanks. YEK
http://www.analogx.com/CONTENTS/download/audio/sayit.htm analogx sayit is very computer sounding and you can control some perimeters (to the extreme of making noise) Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide YEK's signature Hide all signatures Reveal hidden contents !:/music Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/40381-good-speech-synthesis-software/#findComment-888696 Share on other sites

Guest Drahken
I used to have an awesome one for my Atari ST. Very Wargames like. Still have the disk around here somewhere, wonder if you can port them to windows. Guest Tamas
This one is good, open source, and even does languages other than English: Espeak Oh and what Drahken says is a good idea as well. Before when I wanted speech synthesis I found a ROM of a speech synthesis program for a system like Commodore 64. I don't remember which system it was, but either way, only one emulator was able to reproduce the sound (and it cost money, the demo was fully functional for 30 or so days though), sadly I forgot the name of it and the harddrive that has that info on it is on the other side of my continent. If you researched it you could probably find more details. It was an interesting either way, you had to write words in a certain way to make it sound proper, though the "game" came with a tutorial so it was easy to learn. In the end I decided it wasn't the sound I was going for and found Espeak instead. It may be what you're looking for, though. I can look for more details later if you're interested. I didn't get one till 2002, so I never got to experience retro computers. One day I want to purchase one. That would be cool if it's possible to port it, isn't there emulation and such for the Atari ST? YEK, I checked out sayit, that was pretty much what I was looking for thank you sir. Tamas, I'll check out Espeak, thanks. modey
there was one that someone posted on here a while ago, it took the lyrics from a midi file and turned it into a singing voice according to the melody in the file. it was awesome but i can't remember what it's called! also it was all driven from batch/config files (ie. no gui). mcbpete
Is there a windows one that's quite similar to the old Mac speech synth (MacInTalk according to wikipedia), you know the one in the Radiohead track. AnalogX is close but not quite there. Guest Drahken
There probably is some atari emulators now, haven't looked into it in eons. Would be bitchin if there are, I have loads of disks from back then. Everything from some early trackers/music software to fucking old school games like Gauntlet, Techno Cop, Dive Bomber, Marble Madness, Battle Chess, Naval Battle. I still cry myself to sleep at night for getting rid of mine. If I remember right the speech synth was just some tool that used a chip inside the atari, and yea it sucked at pronouncing shit which is why I thought it was so cool. Ill do some diggin.
