bending an hr-16

just picked one of these up, did minimal internet research, played with wires, didn't break it, yay, a few questions if anyone else has got one of these

are any chips other than the two horizontal voice chips worth messing with/avoiding?

tutorials/info for building a patchbay? I've never bent anything before unless connecting things with wires that I am holding just now counts. also, the guy I got it from mentioned something about using multipliers to connect things... what are those?

do these all smell like a swimming pool on the inside? is it because of the 80s?

my favorite detail of this, is it's pretty easy to change the sample sounds on this machine. If you replace the EPROMS that have the sample information on them. There's a guide on how to do it at burnkit2600's site. He even put the amen break on one of the chips. (sounds pretty silly, but still awesome) I plan on doing this at some point, if I ever get enough spare change and time to do so. Would be so much fun to put what ever samples I feel like putting on it, and just use it as a really cool hardware sampler you can glitch the fuck out. I'm interested in doing this with eeproms in general, and also changing the eproms on SNES would be fun too. I'm wondering if any one's bent a nintendo 64, just curious about that too. Sorry, I started rambling. Deffinitely check out Burnkit2600's section on the hr-16, not only is there original article nice, but theres always tons of ongoing discussion in the comments section of the articles.

I also wouldn't think it would smell like a swimming pool, though the grease they use for pots some times does have an odd scent, and the polyester capacitors or what ever can get kinda weird too. I dunno.

re the smell I just thought it was funny because some of the drum sounds are so 80s, seemed oddly appropriate.

that's just the chlorine that they cut the coke with
