Should I do it? I'm pretty confident I could build it, I'm very handy with a soldering iron, and I'm an EE major.

Is this thing worth it for $340? What is your opinion on it? They're never ever on ebay, does that mean a lot of satisfied customers?

yeah! get it, if you know yer shit then it'll be a piece of piss and you know you're not getting a kit thats gonna get half done and sit for ages. plus you can add your own mods to it. not to mention the fact that thats a pretty good price for a monosynth let alone one that hopefully sounds exactly like a 303.

save your money and get a real 303 later, to me it doesnt sound as good atall.

But if you are 1337 you can do some mods to make it pretty much the same.

I reckon keep in mind that you are paying partly for the fun of building it. If you dont think it will be fun to build, get something else.

It looks well cool and I think it sounds good enough... if I had a bit more money and any soldering experience whatsoever, I'd sign up for one myself.

yeah it sounds great and was straightforward enough to build, happy enough with mine. though it is expensive for a kit.

why not just buy the circuit daigrams, and buy your own bits from maplin..

not only can you include your own mods, but you can get it cheaper, and buy high qulity components.

and you can design a funkyspace age front end for it with levers and robot eyes and shit.

and a laser beam.

apparently they spent months and months sourcing the components for the kits, plus they buy them in bulk. if you went on your own it would be more expensive and a huge hassle.

it's very very decent for being a "clone", it has its own sound, very good for acid stuff! its not a complete 303 twin but you shouldnt treat it as such either... does a great job of complementing your "acid" ensemble if you have one, like a 101 and a 303

i thought the point of it was that it was an 'exact' clone, ie they'd reverse engineered a 303, and built the x0xbox from identical parts.

then added the retrofit etc.

so by rights it should be almost identical, though it's worth bearing in mind that no 2 actual 303s sound identical, so to compare an x0xbox to a 303 is not going to get you anywhere, because you'd get the same result comparing a 303 to another 303.

yeah but they lack a few transistors and some other outdated components... it's probably the best clone i've heard. like you say they all sound different, that's the way it goes with analogue. it's very decent though, easy to put together too. like analogue legos.

i'd also save the money, and buy a real one

it's vintage and barely fixable when broken, but it atleast sounds real and it looks cooler too (unless you mod it on the outside)

well bear in mind that the b0x recorded above also has the 2 mods:

- allow the Env mod to be set to zero

- wider filter cutoff range, goes from subsonic to near ultrasonic now

so getting photons did you end up ordering it? mine's apparently already shipped... i just have to wait now... and then pay the taxes if i'm not lucky.

yeah, I ordered it, my girlfriend helped me by going in half for valentines day (she's great, got me the analord binder for christmas)
