what the F is wrong with my soundcard?

ok so about 2 months ago i started noticing that at low volumes of music listening, i could hear some distortion coming from my computer. i wasnt sure what it was, but it was quiet enough to ignore and forget about for the time being. i noticed it was the low freqs that distorted easier

fast forward to now

so now anytime i play sound on my computer there is this distortion and it is pretty fucking distracting. its not too quiet that i can ignore, but its not so loud that i cant listen to music, but its irritating as betty and i want it to go back to normal. it seems like the distortion gradually increased during the last couple months, and a few days ago, it reached a new level of static that i cant deal with anymore

what in the hell watmm?????????

im pretty sure its my sound card but maybe not. i dont understand what could have happened.

one thing i find strange is that when i look at my volume controls (using XP) the volume has to be almost all the way down or else its too loud. its possible that there just might be some setting somewhere in XP where ive somehow boosted the volume and now its causing thr distortion??? :undecided: i dont know....look at this pic......

so does this have anything to do with the aforementioned distortion or has my soundcard developed fucked up ness

ps drunk

pss thanks guys i knew i could count on you

What about the soundcard software? Maybe it's turned up way too fucking loud in there and you had balance before? Dunno if it even has software? What kind of soundcard do you have?

The distortion gradually increasing over months would indicate a hardware problem though. That's fucked up.

i had similar problems and it was my pci slots interefering with each other... try switching slots and see if that works :)

What soundcard are you using?

Looks like the standard internal one with that control screen!!!

yes its attacked to the motherboard/is the motherboard. i opened up the computer and saw that, so there's nothing to move into a different pci slot. this means i must go buy a new soundcard.

i just got off the phone with a computer store. they can hook a brother up with a creative for $20. should i buy this? im just writing music in live oiut into my headphones, im not going to be using it for anythiung else, so i dont think i need a high end one RIIIIGGGHHHTTTTT???? will it sound like crap? why is it so cheap? they close in about an hour so you peeps better get tellin me about creative soundcards!

Creative is a fine brand, there are probably cheaper soundcards. Not sure if you'll hear any difference though, high end soundcards need good headphones/speakers to go with. Don't know if you're an audiophile?

well if you're used to the shitty built-in c-media audio, then a creative card would be awesome in comparison. i used a sblive for all of my recording for a long time before i got my laptop and an external interface. i'd send you one of my three sblive cards but i guess you want one right away.

if you read this subforum you'll know i had the same problem with a pci audiophile 2496...

i only have two pci slots on my motherboard so instead of getting a new audio card i got a usb wireless router

it made the most sense to me and i bought it on boxing day for half price!

dude you are awesome

this will all go away when i finally get my laptop.........

*dreams*

but oh no!

when i switched the new soundcard over, everything seemed fine until i opened Live. when im playing a song there are these quick little pauses of silence that last a fraction of a second about every 5 - 10 seconds or so, and this will not do!!!

im playing around with buffer and latency nonsense in the asio4all window, but its still kind of there and its ruining everything. can anyone please help? im running Live and using asio4all. help me, obi-wan kenobi, youre my only hope.
