PS Bottom line:- get a couple of good old analogs , an old sequencer eg Korg SQ10 for Korg/Yamaha , MC4 or CSQ-600 for Roland and that will get you a long way

The late 70's Yamaha and Roland synths are better built and sounding than the 1980's CEM and SSM based synths

"Modeless Factory" is the business. Less expensive than most of the other Japanese sellers and he usually performs a pretty extensive refurbishing process on the stuff he sells. Friendly chap, as well.

i have a feeling you don't use much SCI gear.

All early Aphex stuff is laden with Yamaha's DX line FM synthesis patches. Just listen to SAW 85-92 or Polygon/Caustic Window stuff.

Thats exactly what I thought but wasn't 100% about SAW2
