Norwegian downtempo duo Röyksopp haven't blessed us with a proper album since The Understanding almost four years ago, but that's about to change. On their website, Torbjørn Brundtland and Svein Berge announced that Junior, their third album, will be coming out on March 23. This announcement is both good news, as the duo are quick to announce: "Every once in a while we surface to share our music and shed some light in an otherwise bleak reality. And that time is soon upon us, Ladies & Gents."

 

This time around, they've recruited themselves an all-star team of icy Scandinavian pop-goddess collaborators: Robyn, Lykke Li, Anneli Drecker, the Knife's Karin Dreijer. Drecker and Dreijer have both laced Röyksopp tracks in the past, Dreijer on "What Else Is There" and Drecker on "Sparks"; Robyn and Lykke Li are both new to the group. And that list of names means this album has a pretty good chance of ruling. Here's the tracklist:

If it's like their last album, I couldn't give two shits.

I am not really looking forward to their next album either, although their debut album Melody A.M. has been my favorite album ever for years.

The Understanding was shit at first listen indeed, but after picking it up after a few months I liked it (having seen a interview of the making).

If Melody A.M. was a 9/10, The Understanding was imo around 6.5-7/10, so I expect Junior to fit inbetween at 8/10, as it seems pretty promising apart from the titles.

this pairs last album was a peice of crap that utterly devalued Meloday am. Seems they lost their touch even before they re-released their first album (about 18mths after its first release on WOS).

I think I heard a single from this somewhere the other day, although I was very drunk and possibly imagined/dreamed the entire thing. Whatever I heard I enjoyed anyway.

A lot of really cheesey, horribly bad shit. Think The Understanding, except cheesier and with a french electro vibe to it. A couple of okay tracks, but this is a 5/10 at best. :confused:

Goddamn what the fuck is wrong with them. Melody A.M. was epic, and I had a lot of memories with that album back in 06. The Understanding was gay shit (other than "Sombre Detune"), and when I heard their recent throwaway track "Happy Birthday" I srsly facepalm'd hard. The fagtastic cover art gives me no hope...no hope at all. Congrats on failing hard, Royksopp. Congrats.

Happy Up Here is the best song on the cd. >_<

I listened to the cd. Uh, I think Happy Up There is the most inventive for sure. The production value on this, as their previous records, is really great. I think that is part of their appeal for me. But its also fairly generic. "This Must Be It" is the only other track on there that seems truly inspired to me.

First track is good if not very unique, the rest is easily forgettable.
