So, I haven't used any text to speech software in a few years, and I'm not really interested in accurate text to speech in general. What I am searching for is software that can emit more primitive sounding speech, similar to the early vocal synths on the ZX Spectrum and Commodore computers, OR sounds similar to the IBM 7094 and the "Daisy Bell" vocal synthesis. I've attempted emulation of various programs for each type of computer, and it's more of a headache than I expected. Does anyone here have experience with TTS, and know of something that could possible provide the sound I described? I was delving too deep into vocal synthesis, and realized that I may be able to find what I need within the world of TTS.

For audio examples, check

and

I know this is a bit of a stretch in regards to software, as these sounds were dependent on the hardware and circuitry. I am just trying to get something close.

Guest analogue wings

There was a speech synthesiser app for the Amstrad CPC and Spectrum, but yes it relied on external hardware (still sounded awful lol). You might get lucky and find that someone has been anal enough to write an emulator for one of those machines that also emulates the speech dongle...

sort of. some of the formants are similar, and it reminds me a bit of the computer from War Games (Matthew Brodericks computer, not the main computer). What did you use for it?

I will give Cantor peep. The audio demos sound promising.

it's pretty primitive. but you can control parameters for pitch, speed and modulation. so, if a particular setting is good for one word in your phrase, you can render it and then reset the parameters so they give you what you want for the next word and then render that. then combine them to form your full phrase. a little tedious, but it will give you exactly what you're looking for.

Jesus, analogx. I remember the "vocal remover". Their website hasn't changed in an age. Thx for the reminder d00d.

I know the somewhat newer versions of FL Studio have text to speech, can't you just formant shift them or apply comb filter?

The Amiga speech synth built into Workbench is pretty similar to the example you posted, so you could try that (PM me if you need help/files to get it to work)

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.
