Kompakt head Wolfgang Voigt will bow to popular demand next year and reissue Studio 1 on CD.

Hot on the heels of the recent Gas reissue, Voigt is clearly feeling as though the time is ripe to reassess his mid '90s work. This time, it's his Studio 1 project, which is often credited as "the root and origin of German minimal techno." At the time of their release, the records were celebrated as much for their music as for their mystery: Each record was untitled, only differentiated from the rest of the series by its color. The reissue here is CD-only and doesn't offer any new tracks, but considering it's been a decade since it's been in print in any format, we'll gladly take what we can get.

Kompakt will release Studio 1 on January 12, 2009.
