Guest ~ism
just a wee heads up on finally getting a better quality file up, the one in Downloads section is 128 and dung. http://forum.watmm.com/index.php?showtopic...mp;#entry919266 I've been trawling through various external drives for the wav file, and found 1 copy of it - but strangely looks and sounds same as the 256 mp3, which isn't making sense, no idea why i would resave an mp3 back out as a wav?? anyway - this sounds much better if you only have the 128 copy that seemed to do the rounds and appears up in Downloads. There's an interview from a year back that I chucked up too, just noticed it wasn't there already. ta.. Guest ~ism
not at all, apologies for taking so long. though figure it's a bit like official secrets act - after a certain number of years things come out in the wash lol. what i'm after is a desk feed of the 2008 gig at the art school... i was straight at that one (driving) and still can't remember a bloody thing, would have loved to have that. unfortunately my source told me that they daren't record a feed of that one.... to say im skeptical is an understatement, there's one out there - there has to be. xy_politics
sorry to have to say this ism, appreciate the work you've done, and thanks for sharing, but the original 128k rip is far superior to this 256k one, despite the bitrate advantage the 256k rip has been grossly over-limited to the point where sharp percussion sounds have almost completely disappeared listen to them side-by-side - I did (with a 14db cut on the 256k rip) and the difference is huge. the 256k rip actually sounds like a lower bitrate recording because all the life has been squeezed out of it the 128k rip isn't a "shit job" at all - it peaks at 0db, it has all the dynamics intact, and the low bitrate doesn't affect the sound nearly as much as 14db of unnecessary dynamic compression does i mean, just look at the 2 mp3s in a wave editor.. do you have a clean copy of this? In the meantime, don't delete your 128k copies people, you might want to listen again.. xy_politics
just to provide an easy method of comparison.. 45 second mp3, one half is the old rip, other half is the new rip. loudness has been equalised which half do you think sounds better? edit: the second half is the old rip ae05.mp3Fetching info... Guest Tankakern
xy_politcs, after listening to your comparison i now completely see what you mean. The 256 has smudged all the high end percussion out, and there' something undeniably more 'spacey' about the earlier rip. I think the 256 just gives the impression of something more punchy—it seems to have been set a little louder for instance. It' a shame that nothing really good came out of the current tour (i mean the Toronto recording wasn't all that great). As with many people, the glasgow set still remains on constant rotation. I wish i could get a recording of the Zumbar gig i went to (a kind of secret outting by Ae in MCR around the release of draft i think).... *needs more AE live set, definitely a cleaner recording of the recent tour set* Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/41529-small-notice/#findComment-920680 Share on other sites
