is that alot? credit crunch

yeah, bit above the going rate sorry. try £70 if you want to actually sell it.

7x7s are getting dumped on auction sites in a big way. people getting rid of impulse buys they arent using whilst clinging to their analogues in the hope they'll retain value better

The 707 plays from samples though doesn't it? I'm probably missing something here, but the 606 and 808's drum tones are created through analogue, whereas the fun of the 707 comes from sequencing/altering it's volume sliders (also hence its lower price)

yeah it's samples - wicked claps though - virtually the same as a 909's...

the 707 is popular for a lot of reasons, and most of them have nothing to do wth the sounds

the sounds do have an eerie ability to cut through a mix at any volume tho

the interface is really cool - there's a grid so you can see all the instruments in the pattern at once, it has tap and step sequencing, so you can crank out beats realy quickly

you can use it to sync you 303/606/808 to your midi gear with no extra boxes

separate outs for each sound - you can process it with your guitar pedals or whatever without using up outputs on you soundcard/tracks in your daw

£125 isn't a bad price, I'd have a punt on that to compliment my 606. 707 has a nice raw unpolished sound to it, not suitable for a lot of stuff but good for banging dirty acid. My 606 in comparison is fairly clean and tinny sounding if that makes sense...

7x7s have a trigger out as well for example to trigger a sh101 sequencer.

and the in built sequencer is well done, it's not convoluted like modern ones and it's not retarded like the 808's one. the 606 sequencer is well done as well. ne1 know if theres a way to loop a track on a 707?

2 months ago i had the ol 707 +303 setup just making loopy tracks for hours and hours it was good fun no track programming just messing with single bars in real time and messing with the sliders. just limiting it to bass, snare, sibilance made it sound like a completely different machine to when you add in the toms and rimshot etc. one track i left the 303 rhythmic with no cutoff adjustment but put the 707 through a resonant filter cutoff playing hehe

if you sample 707/727 sounds they sound quite good in pc/vst/tracker music. you can take the sounds and put them in a sampler on fruityloops or battery or something and you can pitch the sounds up and down to make new instruments, eg turn the toms into 50-80hz bass drums and turn the chachacha into a 1930's steam train. if you mess about you can fill the spectrum with a new sounding drum kit or even make it like a 60s sounding kind of experimental electronic stuff, the sounds are really flexible compared with other drum machines imo

with modern technology they could make a analogue 606/808 style really small like a gameboy and put a 303 inside but they just dont have the idea to do it. it would make so much money. roland are thick. they should get a couple of phds on the job it wouldnt even take that long i reckon

i can never understand why roland don't just remake 303s - make them exactly the same (maybe add midi) and flog them for £250 each. they'd selling fucking loads.

I think it's to do with obselete chips that for some reason can't be made anymore. Maybe they like trading off the classic appeal of their old hardware too. I read up on it a while ago but can't remember the specifics, the xoxbox forum had some interesting information on it.

i don't buy that obsolete chips argument - this is bloody roland we're talking about, they could make any chips they need....i honestly think roland believe there is no market for it...roland are a bunch of idiots now - they make plasticy, cheaply manufactured stuff that is essentially exactly the same DSP chip in various different boxes. they are all about maximising profit and keeping costs low etc. fuck roland.

theyre just integrated circuits

maybe the factory closed but if they actually paid some smarty pants analogue ic experts they could redo something special even if it wasnt a clone of the past

instead they just do dsp chip after dsp chip of shite

it wouldnt be hard to make some spicey filter ic and oscillator ic

as a company they are just pussies

I mean x0xb0x is pretty much the same thing just not tiny and you can build it yourself for 300 or less pretty easily.

lots of people try to market a 303 clones, future retro, acidlab etc. none of them are that close, it's not the easiest thing to make perfect, that's the reason it's so legendary in the first place.
