Guest analogue wings
http://forum.watmm.com/index.php?showtopic...st&p=933373 yeah they're stretching the meaning of "Teleportation" quite a bit beyond what the Star Trek meaning of moving shit around, so meh. also, Teleportation as currently concieved is that same as a computer version of a "move" i.e. a copy followed by a delete of the original. So, I'm not stepping in that transporter room anytime... Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/42504-teleportation/#findComment-947718 Share on other sites
delet...
still .. if they are actually succeeding (has many doubts) at instantaneous communication of quantum states .. it could be rather intresting for a number of fields .. not including the teleportation business .. oyster
how is this possible? like one thing is, and another is as well, in a different space what happens to the matter inside of the space that something was teleported to? Guest analogue wings
same article says ansible are impossible due to some weird quantum theory i dont get it if you can make an atom change the way you want it to change in a predictable way - you have instantaneous long distance communication, no? EdamAnchorman
this was on cnn last week some time i think The Pod said: how is this possible? like one thing is, and another is as well, in a different space what happens to the matter inside of the space that something was teleported to? i think matter is not being teleported, just a quantum state between atoms. for instance, an atom with a specific set of quantum states teleports its quantum states to the other atom, now you essentially have two identical atoms so you could say that you teleported the first atom. taken to the extreme, lets use an example of teleporting a human being. on one end would be you, and on the other end a soup of exactly the same number and kind of atoms that make you up. one by one, every characteristic of every atom in your body is teleported from you to the soup of atoms, and another one of you arises. needless to say, that is quite complex if you think about it... Guest analogue wings
the original person is still at the point of departure you would have to specifically DESTROY the original to give the illusion of travel Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/42504-teleportation/#findComment-947781 Share on other sites
Guest Rambo
exactly In kind of a good, obvious way, it throws a light on the illusory nature of me feeling as if i'm the same me from yesterday. There's this whole illusion of continuity going on for everyone and that's the only thing that needs to be maintained with these technologies. A good example of using this is the idea of slowly replacing body parts with artificial ones, piece by piece until the fleshy you is gone. Just maintain dat continuity sucka. Guest Rambo
i wasn't clear enough there as usual. I'm thinking more years down the line when the parts wouldn't necessarily be flesh. Guest Rambo
well yes but mostly what i'm getting at is that the only problem is in maintaining the illusion of continuity that we all take for granted. That's going to be key with all these ideas. Ultimately all that's ever going to matter is that i'm tricked into feeling that i'm the same enitity i was moments before and how successful these various advances are, will probably hinge on how well we can pull these transitions off.
