TV on the Radio

Is it because the bassist has a funny afro, weird glasses and sings with a crazy falsetto? It can't just be the music, because, based on what i've heard, it ain't that special.

I liked "Staring at the Sun" but never heard anything else that was anywhere near as good.

TVotR fans, make your case. I want to know why every bad haircut in the world is cumming in their pants over this band.

BTW - I am honestly not flame-baiting. I'm curious why all of my friends are into it and I just don't see it.

Its the same with every other shit band init, if theyre forced fed enough down peoples throats they just become 'cool' and its all just wank. Bands like that have become disposible music now though i feel, 1 or 2 album jobbies and then out.

are people scared to admit that they aren't amazing? ...for fear of looking un-hip?

as they progressed musically i felt they were sounding more and more 'mainstream' if you get what i mean. like through outside influences or their own it seems like they're trying to find a wider audience, and get a pop hit like gnarles barkley or something.. their early stuff was great, but i only liked a few tracks off of dear science which overall i found kind of disappointing.

it's the same thing about crystal castles. all of a sudden they're *everywhere* and personally i can't stand them and find them to be absolute shit but you're not 'cool' or 'with it' unless you like them or something. when people talk to me in person about electronic music and they mention crystal castles, i like to pretend that it's just their first starting off point and they don't know all the other great stuff and it's up to me to help them expand musically and to get into some discussions about it, but it's like people just refuse and almost want to remain ignorant about better stuff, that it's really just about being hip than any appreciation of music

well, i actually think Tunde (lead singer of TVotR) has some experienced ears and musical formality. i find a lot of their material quite interesting in construction; let alone their fusion of diverse styles.

i'm a fan. dear science sounded too much like coldplay in places but still had some great tracks. they're not the greatest band ever but in a world of really boring indie rock they stand out.

but.. you didnt like them.... who cares? move on.

this is the problem though, why do you have to see it? If this band were huge (see radiohead) this thread would simply be a reasons why i hate TV on the radio thread instead of your question. It's all directly proportional to how much the band is liked. It's stupid.

i'm pretty un-hip as I only just listened to Return to Cookie mountain about two or three months ago. I honestly think it's one of the most amazing albums I've heard in several years. It is stunning. I can't speak for their other music as I haven't heard any of it yet, but this album is the real deal.

i dont get them either. seems like run of the mill indie rock to me..

still though ... cookie mountain had short lived fast food moments .. pico short .. i'm not fit to comment though .. cause i skim most music ... i mean i just bought two albums and i nearly spent more time listening to them demo'ing at bleep ... -sie- ... everything suks .. mostly ...
