Guest tbio2007
I'm assuming at one point some of you would have sent a demo of to some labels, so could anyone tell me more about the process, espically how long you should expect a response, if one is coming. I'm not sure whether this is the best way to go anymore with Myspace and that but I thought it would be worth it, I think I sent demos to 19 labels in the end. You may as well have just set fire to them and scattered the ashes. If you get asked to send a demo, send one. If not I really would not bother. Send them to your friends and family instead. They would at least feel a bit guilty throwing them away before even listening to them. Guest tbio2007
Erm, thanks for the reply but can you explain why this is the case, I have heard this sought of stuff before, if a label actually states on it's website that they are taking demos and provide an address then what's the problem??? pcock
another way of looking at it, why the fuck shouldnt you do it. i cant think of a single reason not to send off some demos, apart from the obvious hour of work it might take but who gives a fuck. just do it. Guest tbio2007
Yeh the websites actually provide an address and ask for demos so is there a problem there then? Braintree
I submitted a demo to ZOD once. Two years later I got an email telling me they were too busy to release my stuff. How unfair, considering my music had grown so much during that two year period. At least the response was nice. Bubba69
Ive thought about it but then I realize I don't want to show anybody my music until I'm totally confident in its brilliancy, I do not want to taint my name. Braintree
Don't expect a response at all, honestly. If your music is good enough, someone will notice it eventually. Guest TheEarlOfEastchurch
dont even consider it a demo. have something that should already be released, then give it too em in person (at live show or whatever) went too a warp show in 2001, i had only been making proppa tunez for a couple of months (wid cubase) used to carry a tape of my my stuff round ta listen to, my friend spotted the rephlex man grant and told me to give him the tape, so i did. that was on the friday, got a reply on the monday. still got it on my wall. got me nowhere but was really incouraging. its like playing games at school i reccon. ya see a big group playing some game but ya cant join in, so you go off and make up a weird new game on your own and soon they all start ta come over and want to play hope that helps in some way: ) Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/42590-demo/#findComment-953513 Share on other sites

Sure, I like to listen to it myself, but its just not something I feel other people are going to appreciate and I need to really refine everything until I unleash my style onto the music people. The only reason for this is that I have a vision of what I want my ideal music to be, any I'm slowly sculpting it to that, as well as changing the vision around every couple months, but its getting there, give me two more years. The other reason is that I do not want every failed experiment of a track to be judged by somebody, is that I want the qualities to grow in my own mind and not be sculpted through feedback of what people like/dislike.
