does anyone have ANY idea how this can happen

Recommended Posts

i reinstalled ubuntu under wubi after last boot

and disabled acpi in the bios cos i had trouble before

i rebooted 6 times, it crashed and autorestarted every time

so i booted hiren's bootcd and deleted the primary partition using partition magic

i killed it! my mp3s being on another partition

another few reboots - even the most basic of linuxes were arseing about

after a while busybox (linux bootloader) would start if i tried to boot ubuntu

it gave an error about BIOS being fucked

multiple reboots. multiple BIOS resets

one final reboot - and XP boots normally

MY PRIMARY PARTITION IS BACK

the OS I KILLED is completely unharmed

i am spooked

I did something similar back in the 90s trying to install linux.

i'm thinking i didn't commit the changes. anyway the desktop is ok but i'm scared to reboot it. but now my laptop won't connect to the intyrrenets

it connects to the router and is assigned an IP address

and it can see the gateway

but it can't ping it

also flushing the DNS cache fails

i do this shit all week, i don't want to have to do it at the weekend :(

Guest EDGEY

We used to do "low level formats" back in the day to speed up setting up new machines, all this did was wipe the boot record off, the contents of the drive were left in tact, if you restore the boot record, you can view the contents of the drive again...

Also, do you have multiple drives/devices, and maybe your bios reset the boot order, and your booting off something else (like a memory stick)? (I only ask because sometimes its the really stupid shit that gets you)

have you tried reboot with AMD (Auto-Mounter Daemon) ? If not config the mirror format system and install ls 120 and then copy nlhive.shit_ ls120thinkpad 600x and install your old LS-120.

Guest my usernames always really suck

Is Linux expecting the SATA controller to be in AHCI mode in the BIOS?

I have this problem. I have to enable AHCI to boot into Linux, and disable it (setting it to 'IDE Compatible') if I want to go into Windows, because Windows can't recognize an almost decade-only hardware technology. I'd prefer to leave AHCI always on.

lol, that sounds really hackish. You probably just need new drivers for your HD in windows and you'll be set. Or you could easily do it the other way around too with linux too, what kernel are you using? Is it custom or something?
