Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle

Recommended Posts

Guest Stoppit

Anyone else see this?

New program on BBC2; Mostly stand-up, with a few sketches. This week the topic was books.

Just watched it, and it was nice to see a comedy program on the BBC that actually credited its audience with some intelligence. It was also good to see Stewart Lee on television again.

By contrast, earlier today I watched Horne and Corden (BBC3 sketchshow) which was unremittingly shite.

There isnt that much you say about british comedy talent but there isnt that much talent, but those fucking twats are below talentless. The fat ones only answer to comedy is really poorly thought out gay innuendo, thats it, nothing else. And the other one, well he's just there to look ugly. I cant believe theyve got a film out. I cant understand their rise to fame at all :undecided:

Agreed. I counted at least 3 sketches where the joke was basically that James Corden is fat. The writing was complete crap, and the whole thing was just embarassing

also, just looking at that god awful poster for lesbian blar blar blar film informed me that those two were probably awful.

the only decent comedy tv i know of is brooker's screenwipe and i have i got news for you -- and they are both off air at the moment :(

saw stewart lee in a jazz cafe in london once. he was looking frightened and quite fat at the time.

I love screenwipe.

A couple of months ago I went to the BBC as an audience member to see a new program Brooker was filming, called 'You Have Been Watching'. It's a sort of discussion about television, with quiz elements. It was pretty funny, but I think it was just a pilot show, and I don't know if it'll be airing. It was filmed for channel 4, although they used the studios at the BBC

anyway, you heard it here first.

Just watched this, and 'twas real enjoyable so thanks for the heads up. My favourite section was the cut away (post the So Solid Crew segment) where he was in the clown car and some young kid turns up in a huge HUMV and the Grange Hill sausage kicks in.

Horne and Corden however doesn't even deserve any words of opinion thrown towards it, it's a non-comedy.

Well I actually heard it on cookd and bombd first, but congrats on seeing it anyway. I'm looking forward to that and his Newswipe series.

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

I think it was meant to be in the style of the long winded ramblings of an elderly person trying to describe rap culture.

damn cookd and bombd, stealing my thunder. actually, my friend who organised the tickets posts on there, I think that's probably where he found out about it. Let's hope it actually makes it on to tv soon.

just popped in to agree with anything bad anyone has to say about horne and fucking corden. most unfunny, talentless, wannabe simon pegg and nick frost, wastes of space I've ever seen. fuck horne and corden.

Went to see Richard Herring a couple of weeks ago. Hes interesting and engaging, but just forgets to add punchlines. Worth going to, if you enjoy listening to middle aged neurotic men rambling.

My friend and I have 'whos funnier Lee or Herring' arguements quite often. He says Herring. Hes wrong.

I think at least one joke was nicked from Simon Munnery but that's OK

s'OK he was credited at the end ("Two book jokes - Simon Munnery"), plus he was the guy in the Radio 4 sketch as one of the braying presenters.

Ah, didn't notice him in the sketch - definitely recognised those jokes from Attention Scum though! I assumed Munners gave permission as they're mates...

Plus it's not like anyone ever saw Attention Scum anyway.
