the film was lovely, but that's about it; it wasn't really good.

The sales of the two Bay Criterion made possible each and every further release by them. Without that version of Armageddon, the company would simply not exist

It was a business decision, in the end they are still alive and releasing kick-ass (but expensive) movies with a lot of additionnal content.
