Analord

yeah this is opening up a can of worms, but been listening to my 3 Analord CDs lately and i have to say i haven't heard another acid release with nearly the epic scope this has, or the variation of melody. i'm by no means an expert on the old school scene, but a lot of other 'masters' of the genre; Dred, 808 State, Vibert, Ceephax, etc. just don't hold my attention the way this series does. let me know what releases you think top this.

i wouldn't say best acid ever..

i would say "most aphex analogue dance grooves with a twist" ever..

to me, analord proved that dickie could do what had been being done for years, with a freshness, originality, and sheer technical skill that no-one else could touch.

i love my analords.

its one of my favorite record, i like it more than ceephax, its stunning that most trax share the same sounds, keys, acid lines but are different at the same time, so yes, its like the 303 well tempered.

only aphex could do that

I love Analord to death but acid music stretches way out into the ether beyond the suffocating realm of cornish pasties.

From what some of you write you'd think acid music began only last year.

Adonis, Pierre, Phuture, Bunker Records (Holland) , DJ Skull, D-JAX up beats, Armando, Plastikman, X-103, Robert Hood m-plant eps/

There are tracks on Analord that I would say were all out acid but having elements of acid house does not make the rest of them acid and the whole thing an acid album.

To my way of thinking acid was a time period in the development of electronic dance music as much as the use of a 303. If I was to pick a more pure acid album as best then Newbuild or Prebuild would be my choice. But, even then, the best individual acid track would probably be something from Chicago. Jack Frost & the Circle Jerks' - Cool and Dry maybe.

Analord is Aphex sticking to analogue synths and although acid is part of that the collection is a broad sweep across all kinds of styles and ideas.

i dont think Analord can be called an acid release. The majority of it sounds like analogue synth shit, but id say less than 1/2 uses anything resembling a 303.

So if you want to do a fair comparison i would group together all the actual acid tracks from analord and compare them to a release by ceephax or whatever.

okee.. how do you know when arnolds were done?

i dont he was saying he knew when aphex finished it, he was just implying before analord was known about he was getting acid music from a friend.

i know ill get flames for this but i think Ceephax really re-started this recent acid trend. Yes Universal indicator came out long ago, but that is completely different sounding acid tecno than this recent poppy shit everbody is making.

when i said shit i was saying it in modern street slang context. For instance - "that's some good shit"

just to back up a couple of posts already made here...

there is very little 303 on analord, all 11.. if at all.

there may be some, but it's sounds that are indistinct as 303, thus a slightly more original approach to it's use.

i've listened to it deep, and seriously, anyone who thinks it's a 303 workout should learn to listen.. there's some seriously obscure analogue technology in there....

anyway, the dude has reputedly got one of the biggest collections of pre digital synth tech ever.. (and so he should at 40 quid for a vinyl binder, LOL.).. why would he even get the 303 out of the box.?

i love the synth sounds on Analord i just wish Aphex used some more obscure synthy sounding drums. I have a big problem in general with the 909 kit, and he uses it on half of analord (especially that damn open 909 hat!!). For some reason the 808 does not bother me at all.
