Of the shirt depicting a bull's-eye on a pregnant woman, he said: "There are people who think it's not right, and I think so as well, but it doesn't really mean anything. I mean it's not like someone is gonna go and shoot a pregnant woman."

ughhh this makes me want to hurl, what a pig

What is the idea behind the shirt from July 2007, which has an image of a child with the slogan "Smaller - harder!"?

"It's a kid, so you've got a little more of a problem, morally, and also the target is smaller."

Fucking disgusting.

If this weren't targeted towards Palestinians and it was just a non-descript shirt of any old pregnant lady I would simply think of it as another stupid t-shirt. But since it's being commissioned and worn by actual soldiers this is now a case of murderers advertising the fact that they're just that; a bunch of murderers. It makes me furious to think there are people this vile out there.

I fucking hate soldiers.

I'm supposed to have a reunion of sorts with an old friend next month who has been living in Israel for the last few years (he's Jewish). I'm a little terrified that this topic is gonna come up and i won't be able to restrain myself.

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.

This isn't that shocking

Exactly.

I'm not in any way condoning what happened in Gaza. But if you take kids, give them guns and put them in a hugely stressful situation, don't be surprised by the most macabre, darkest black humour that results. I have no idea why people expect soldiers to all be moral heroes. Pretty much every army that has ever existed will have their equivalent to this. And worse things get said on wattem, so what's your excuse?

"worse things get said on watmm" - watmm isn't exactly carrying out massacres of civilian populations though, is it? sure, boys will be boys, but things take on just a slightly darker tone when these people just carried out war crimes with a level of racism and audacity (or 'hutzpah') that civilised societies revile (on paper at least).

if this leaked elsewhere there would be a huge outcry and backlash - heads would roll.

But that's kind of my point. How do you know that 'these people' were actively involved in war crimes in Gaza, as opposed to an army unit simply revelling in macabre but ironic humour, if an admittedly distasteful ironic humour, as a way of coping with the stresses that they face, or exactly how every army in history before them has acted.

Watmm produces some absolutely reprehensible stuff, especially if you took away irony, context and its own closed logic, and exposed it to the wider world. I would be more indignant and surprised if the IDF actually kitted their troops out with this as standard issue.

Again, I'm not condoning anything. Just surprised that this is considered news worthy or in any way revelatory. People are awful. Especially young people. Especially conscripted young people with guns, in a 'war'. Or an anonymous internet messageboard.

And anyway, when I said worse thing's get said on WATMM, I was specifically drawing a moral equivalence between the events in Gaza and the erroneous use of 'acronym'.

ok i get ya. every soldier aims to dehumanise the enemy, it's normal - but i think this goes beyond that in the context. i agree it's not revelatory, just sympomatic of a far greater problem (it being shrugged off as horseplay for example).

ps. yes, people are terrible.
