Furi Kuri

Cowboy Bebop

Evangelion (I love the second half & the movie. First half is a bit "generic anime silly" at times.)

Miyazaki Films

Akira

....I dunno, I feel like I'm listing stuff you're probably already heavily familiar with (especially given your Asuka avatars & desktops). I honestly really love the aforementioned stuff but have a really hard time finding new series/movies that I don't think are utter horseshit.

totally agree. I hate saying to people I love anime and manga, cause those words bring up a huge amount of shit that just aren't on the same level as these. Akira is the king of all epic manga. The Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind manga is excellent too. Lone wolf and cub is well done.

Also, you guys should check out www.onemanga.com

It has just about everything that exists (and has been translated) for your reading pleasure.

The only catch is some stuff is flipped (right to left) and some isn't, so you have to figure it out as you go.

KARAS

LAIN

+1 for cowboy bebop,FLCL,Evangelion

GITS SAC 1&2

i have couple of issues of five star stories cause they were on sale in town but i have like issues 3/5/11/13/24 etc so i havent read them properly. not really into manga, prefer stuff on VERTIGO comics (DC adult stuff)

like:

THE FILTH (fuckin 5stars this one)

The Authority

The Sandman + all the offshoots - Hellblazer(Constantine) - Lucifer - Death - The House of mystery <good long crisscrossing story arcs from Neil Gaiman.

I'm sure you know the popular ones... have you seen Lain though? It's ok... all.. cyber punk and that sorta thing. Dark and pretentious, arty to the point of almost being silly but in a way that's fun to watch.

But you should definitely watch Paranoia Agent if you haven't. No robots and laser guns and stuff.... it's more of a surreal psychological murder mystery thingy. Also check out the director's (Satoshi Kon) films, Paprika and Tokyo Godfathers (he did a coupla others but those two are probably my favourite, Paprika is more sci fi so maybe more to your liking).

I don't really read any manga... I've read a little bit of Battle Angel Alita which based on your tastes is right up your alley. It's fun but hasn't hooked me in enough to wanna read it all. Still, it's somewhat of a classic so worth checking out.

samurai 7 is ok, bit like bebop tho....

the studio 4 degrees c stuff is cool:

eternal family

mind games

you have to get the jappy humour tho. some people dont like it but i think they're ok.

oh, i completely forgot

TEKKON KINKRETE (no dub atm afaik) or black and white in english. brilliant. the film has music by PLAID, so you should watch it. the manga, black and white, is wicked, as is no.5 by the same guy. brilliant stuff.

Guest analogue wings

Did not feel the Cowboy Bebop movie. Endless lengthy shots of the hero brooding with the wind in his hair and cheesy 80s sounding music playing. I'm told the show is pretty much the same.

Yes, it did remind me of Miami Vice, actually.
