Guest countchocula
I am from the US and want to buy some shit off Itunes from the UK. Mostly I want to buy the Snuff Box series but this is not featured on the US Itunes. It is however featured on the UK Itunes and I could switch over and purchase it. I am just wondering if there would be any negative side effects such as incompatability with my Ipod or TV? Anyone know off hand or done this? mcbpete
I don't think there's anything like region coding with video. Though I'm thinking what they might do is what I've seen other video sites do and realise your IP is outside of the UK and refuse you the download. Joyrex
I did some Googling, and while nothing conclusive came up, the biggest hurdle you'll encounter seems to be the need for a credit-card or iTunes gift card based in that region you're wanting to buy from (you cannot use a US credit card on the Japanese iTunes store, for instance) as the billing address has to be in the same country as the store you're buying from. I did not even think about this aspect of it. Snuff box doesn't have an American physical release either, well I guess I am out of luck. Squee
I might be missing the point, but why don't you just buy it from here? http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/5302285/Snu...ox/Product.html Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/43908-is-there-region-coding-on-digital-releases/#findComment-988950 Share on other sites

I live in region 1 and that DVD will not play here. I've probably logged a week straight of studying and trial and error in order to teach myself how to manage video content. Then, this bullshit of regions and PAL/NTSC and not selling to you if you're out of territory. Are you a fucking business or what? Whatever--as long as I have open source tools to crack and burn DVDs and digital files like crab legs, I don't care. Was not aware I could do that, Squee FTW. I still wish i could use Itunes or another internet source so I could download it and not have to wait for the mail. At least get to watch it at all though. Guest countchocula
what is the point of region separation anyway? I mean they would make more money if there was a global format, so why do they do it? Man, VLC Player plays pretty much everything :) Direct Download Link But yeah, the wait is going to be a pain in the ass. But Play.com sends their stuff from Jersey so it shouldn't take THAT long for you to receive it. Maybe a week or so. Squee
countchocula said: what is the point of region separation anyway? I mean they would make more money if there was a global format, so why do they do it? Well, there are DVDs out there which are Region 0 and therefore can be played on any DVD player. But the reasons why there are regions are because the studios want to be in control of things such as the content of the DVD, the release dates and more importantly the price Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/43908-is-there-region-coding-on-digital-releases/#findComment-988974 Share on other sites

beariksson
I think it's about licenses. The stuff on iTunes UK is only allowed to be sold in UK, and vice versa. If you've heard about Spotify, they recently had to make their database significantly smaller since they weren't allowed to stream stuff that wasn't licensed in the country you were in. Before you could stream everything. But now it's just the stuff that is allowed to be played/bought/whatever in your country.
