the memeification of your brand

does anyone else read hipster runoff? i'm on the fence about a lot of stuff he says, but this recent post is just pure genius. it fully explains how a LOT of musicians are in progress or how they've currently 'made it'. i always knew about certain specific pieces, but now the entire picture has suddenly come into focus. as with everything, it all matters with what time/place you're in, but i really do believe this is how indie/alternative/electronic music is marketed now and how musicians/bands get popular and get a following. the music sometimes has something to do with it as well (but not always)

this also explains the animal collective meme that you should read as well:

strangely enough... i wanted to read this and the layout of the site somehow distracted and then repulsed me from the page. there's like some weird psychovisual effect caused by the site's design that's manipulating my emotions and causing me to discount that blogger's opinions. i also have no desire to look at porn now.

a damaging read.

edit: sorry, i should balance with a positive - i like your avatar and the way it sits against the board's color scheme. i like that you did an intro for your link with a picture. you are probably a good person and a certainly qualified poster.

if you are serious about releasing music or trying to get 'out there' you should really take the time to read the article. it explains fully how everything works right now as opposed to 3 years ago, 5 years ago, 10 years ago, etc. there is a lot more going on with how indie/alternative/electronic bands/artists/music gets popular and 'exposed' to people through the use of memes/messages than a lot of people realize. also if you haven't read hipster runoff before it can absolutely not make sense to you at first. carles employs several gimmicks and acronyms and has a certain style of talking about things. it's strange how he's releasing all this valuable information on the internet for free, seeing how a lot of people who already know how everything fits together are directly profiting from it.

sorry about giving you shit chax. On a serious note, could the fact that i;m a successfully recovering heroin addict work to my benefit for said "meme's" If so, how could i i implement it?

absolutely, that is an extremely powerful meme. it's not only 'interesting information' people find out after they're exposed to your music or whatever, but also works towards the core theme/message/cause you're trying to get out. maybe make it about the positives/negatives of drug-abuse, what it all means/the causes, and how 'music was the only thing that worked'. maybe name an ep 'relapse' or something, have lots of strong imagery. there are tons of things you could do with that and explore that whole concept. several musicians are currently riding the drugs/relapse/recovery meme right now. maybe try to mix it up and make it different somehow, i don't know. good luck.

The article doesn't explain anything; it's the leet-speek ranting of an eighth-grader.

Some interesting, though obvious ideas, were contained in that article. However, it makes me slightly nauseous to think about the fact that newspapers and magazines are dying and that I will probably have to read articles written in the same style as this blog all of the time; as most news will be online in a few years and abandoning proper grammar and syntax seems to be the way things are heading.

i have an EP entitled "The Homeless Renaissance EP" coming out in a week or 2. I was homeless for 2 months last year, living on the streets due to my addiction. Only negatives of drug abuse here, but i am not anti drug. some people can use responsibly. i cannot.

As much as I laughed at Idiocracy, it seems to be slowly coming true. I want to tell all of these "writers" that grammar and syntax were created and refined for good reason and that they could benefit from their use.
