Guest we_kill_soapscum
i have this idea and i'm wondering if you smart motherfuckers could comment on it. i have been throwing a few ideas around m'brain about a good live tool for breakcore-esque music. one idea ive had is taking a theremin and running it into max msp, using a pitch-recognition patcher like fiddle, and then assigning a sample (amen snare etc) to each note, chromatically. that way you could wave yr hand around and control an amen. with practice you could use theremin fingering techniques (like theremin 'virtuosos' use) and have ultimate amen control. Guest getting photons
yes DAT is possible to the OP: the problem would be in quantizing the pitch so that it's accurate and reliable also the problem of hitting 2 samples at once would be a problem as I don't think you can do chords on a theremin Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/4397-controlling-breakbeats-with-a-theremin/#findComment-90191 Share on other sites

Celatid
make a polyphonic theramin, with like five recievers, or even better, get like one of the motion capture ball things they use for video games, and then you're not limited by light, and then you can assign one to each body part you can move. it'd be crazzzzzzzzzzzy. plastic
yeah besides, as long as you're using max/msp just route a CC or note on message to whatever wav you're trying to fuck with instead Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide plastic's signature Hide all signatures << delyria.net >> Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/4397-controlling-breakbeats-with-a-theremin/#findComment-90613 Share on other sites

Guest we_kill_soapscum
im not much of a max guy, ima have to take this to a little elctronic group tihng at my college i really like ths idea, because breakcore is such a frantic and complex genre but when you see it live its relaly just twidling knobs or (ugh) pressing 'play' on a session. i feel like sometihng like tihs could actualy give the performer a chance to manipulate breaks as they should be manipulated, plus the image of a breakcore nerd frantically jabbin his hands everywhich way is delightful Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/4397-controlling-breakbeats-with-a-theremin/#findComment-91399 Share on other sites
acid1
i did something similar to that by making my pitch wheel on my midi controller control the pitch of a break sounds and the modulation wheel control the direction(speed) of the drums results were fun while drunk, especially since the pitch wheel snaps back, so i added a reverb and echo and lol Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/4397-controlling-breakbeats-with-a-theremin/#findComment-102288 Share on other sites

Guest nme30
hectic this sounds, wud love to try , but if your hand can move fast enough wouldnt it work , or is the theremin unable to react that fast????, its def sounds a whole lot funner than jamming loops on a sampler or midi controler Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/4397-controlling-breakbeats-with-a-theremin/#findComment-128869 Share on other sites
