out of tune sh 101

well a big first thing to check is the power supply. Is it the original, if not, is it the right voltage? look up what ampage it takes as well. If the powersupply seems ok (if it's old you might even want to test with a multimeter to be super sure it's putting out right amount) Then would be the time to check internally. I'm no expert though, that just seems like a quick check that could help out.

Bahahah, I had to double check that you aren't a friend of mine, who got a 101 a few weeks ago and is having the exact same issue. We went through most of the tuning steps from the service manual yesterday and thought we had it more or less in tune, but even just bumping the power switch can swing the tuning a semitone in either direction.. We need to get a working oscilloscope to complete the tuning process but it's kind of a lost cause until we get the power switch situation under control.

From what we can gather, it's a pretty common issue and we're currently trying to track down a replacement power switch to see if that won't do the trick. We'll let you know if that works, and likewise post any solutions you find in this thread for future generations.

on mine the entire scaling has gone out

keyboard + onboard sequences are out of tune

alien sounding tuning

cv/gate in works in-tune though

keyboard connection is faulty probably

can you use a pc oscilloscope like on reaktor?

find a mate who is studying electrical engineering and get him to take you to the college lab for an hour

as long as you can get through the door of the school and find the lab (look on the website for a map). ask teh lab technician "is it ok if we use the lab for a bit?" he'll say ok 9/10 times........

i was having wild tuning issues with this moog and I was using the headphone jack and some crazy cables as an out put : it was simply drawing extra voltage from the amplifier with my wacky config. since she is a 101 and analog maybe its something like this.

I didn't understand a pixel of that service manual, so i guess I'll have to take it to get serviced?

Sounds like your best bet. The tuning procedures aren't that complicated, but there are a lot of different steps and it sounds like the power switch probably does need to be replaced (regardless of how sweetly IDM out-of-tune synths are). It'd probably be a worthwhile investment to bring your 101 up to spec. If you can't find a good tech in New Zealand, check out the Modeless Factory in Japan. I've had good luck with them/him.

The tuning knob thing can go up a semitone or down a semitone. Also when i get it serviced ima ask if the guy can make me one of those dmx krew accent boxes cause they look pretty simple.

These guys resurrected my Poly61. Easy to deal with, reasonable prices and FAST.

lol. Fast for you, youz a kiwi ;). I reckon If I sent something from Middle US, it would basically be the same as sending it to the moon. A quick check of the internet machine shows 7780 miles (12521 km) between that repair shop and me. But I would do it in a heartbeat if they were good. I sent my Nord to a place in Georgia (US not Russia lol) for repairs. After continual checking for two months, they admitted that they hadn't even unpacked it. I flew into a rage and told them to send it back. So, for what I went through with a shitty repair service, I could have gotten quality NZ craftsmanship.

you're not elliot though, eh

edit: i think your experience is a common one tho, which is why i put fast in caps lol
