just thought prodigy going dubstep is gay

you know, a friend of mine dated a british girl named claudine benn-zadou or something who worked/works for MTV/europe (her claim to fame is getting reruns of yo mtv raps! played on mtv europe) and whilst at a cubs/expos game in 2003 we had a spirited discussion over who was more important in the grand scheme of things: aphex twin or the prodigy.

obviously, i supported dear tricky dick james and she went for the prodigy, citing their massmedia/mainstream success/influence/etc... i went for the other way, saying that the more talented musician (the prodigy is essentially liam and fuckall the rest are dancers) wins out because i'm sure if aphex twin really really cared and wanted to be a pop star he could've been, what with the come to daddy and windowlicker epoch where at least the former video tore through MTV USA and he could've focused his energy on being trendy and he coulda been like a superbjork in terms of being someone always on the virge of total mainsteamdom whose name hearkens thoughts of being indie/artistic/cool-for-liking-them, but fortunately he's cooler than that and as long as he makes a living doing what he's doing with the balls out respect that comes from OG/people-in-teh-know, the whole superpopstardom thing doesnt matter.

so i kind of nudge this question out to you, teh whattemassive: would you say overall that the prodigy is more important than aphex twin, or vice versa?!@

ive got a good copy of this. its shite.

The way I look at it Aphexs' music has more substance.

In terms of importance, thats down to the individual perspective. But speaking on behalf of watmm...ahem... A new Aphex Twin release is of greater importance than the tripe Prodigy just shat into the world.
