White House Press Secretary Tries To Defend Obama’s Opposition To Taxing And Regulating Pot — He Can’t!

true but the whole point of this being good news is that the press demanded an answer. They will not back down until this issue gets addressed seriously, and there is no reasonable argument for prohibition so just wait and watch them squirm in their seats over the next few months until finally they have to admit it is stupid for prohibition to exist

excellent but obama can't back down on anything in his first term or he would appear weak to hostile nations/critics

I doubt legalizing pot would make him seem weak to hostile nations. Who cares what critics think. The only people he has to please are the majority of people in this country, not just those who have an extra high soapbox to stand on.

I say we keep the pressure on. This should be discussed amongst the populace (that's us) to the point where the question becomes unavoidable and must be addressed. Obama isn't going to bring change. We have to bring it. Hell, look at Lincoln. He wasn't actually the great emancipator that a lot of people think him to be, he was simply very moderate on the issue and got backed into a political situation by everyone else until he had little choice but to acknowledge their will. Same goes for FDR. The originally proposed New Deal had some pretty lukewarm proposals and if not for the constant pressure from the unions there would not exist the reforms that we now have today - or did, I should say. That is, before corporate deregulation started in the 70s and arguably caused the economic crisis we're in now. Something worth keeping in mind is that the unions were so successful in demanding these reforms was that the l1930s were the high-point of organized labor and unions in the country *hint hint*.

it was funny to me how Gibbs never said the words "legalize marijuana", instead saying "that". As if he is afraid some hiphop guys are going to sample him over beats.

even though the Obama Justice Department claims they will stay away from states that allow medical marijuana for some reason the DEA came to San Francisco yesterday and raided a pot club, the DEA nor the Justice department have offered and explanation of why.

I'm more excited by this move in Congress rather than any lip service Obama or his cabinet want to pay towards the marijuana community
