Resonance effect in Ableton

Recommended Posts

I was at a friends house playing around with reason and really like the resonance effect it has as naff as it was, is there anyway of creating this effect in Reason? Thanks

Fixed.

is that what you meant to say?

I imagine that if you re-wire Reason through to Ableton it should be possible

yep, you were right, thank alot!

resonance is a filter parameter. what you mean is 'resonator'.

something similar could most likely be created in reason - the first thing that springs to mind is splitting the audio through multiple delays tuned to very tiny ms frequencies.

care to give it a go? like in a combinator or something, then share the patch?

for the good of the cause man, do it up! I'd try, cuz i know my way around reason, but i have no idea what it (the resonator) is.

Resonator basically gives you a reverb in a specific pitch of your chosing.

Never really used it much myself

you can create that effect with a really quick delay with a long feedback.

i don't get it. reverb will always be in the same pitch as the source sound, right? why would you want to specify a pitch?

Cuz then you can make chords and whatnot out of atonal content like field recordings or drums

Equalizers can create a resonator type of effect if they are designed so they can be pushed to nearly self-oscillate(add some narrow bands with high gain/low gain), for example a parametric equalizer can be used to simulate a guitar body(plucked string waveform dynamics are what makes a guitar so hard to emulate accurately on a synthesizer). Also try turning up the feedback on a comb filter. Finally, some reverbs allow for very small spaces and can create resonances, turning down the diffusion rate will help this I think. I'm sure you can create some really nice sounds in reason, some physical modeling stuff. I'm not familiar with reason and its effects, but I'm sure its doable to some extent.

yeah, that's pretty imprecise though isn't it?

not at all.... it will create a specific pitch, which you can alter with the delay time, a la the vocals on that radiohead track on kid a... can't remember the name.

yeah, however it is pretty primitive and probably not even close to the algorithm(s?) used by ableton's resonator effect. Also I wanted to mention an extremely good freeware VST reverb specifically for small spaces(not as small as a trumpet or anything though, its for square rooms) call ambia, which can really add some life many instruments. Beware, it has many parameters! http://d.hatena.ne.jp/VSTLINK/20081209/1228795342

i tried this. whenever i turn up the diffusion parameter it sounds like choppy trash. whats going on?
