Guest blutac
Does anyone have any sites that aren't corportate funded to recommend? The ones I've found so far are normally quite limited in scope, I'm hoping to find something that covers as much news as the networks without the filters. I know that whoevers putting it up probably has an agenda and bias of their own, but it's good to get a view that differs from the mainstream and allows you to see another side of a debate. Guest analogue wings
Ther isnt really one. Your best bet is 2 news sites that have opposing biases - i.e. one will scream about something the other sweeps under the carpet and vice versa. BBC is pretty good, but they proved their non-neutrality pretty convincingly when they waded into Blair on Iraq and ended up making some guy kill himself. Good luck finding a mainstream news site that is unbiased on anthropogenic climate change. (I love The Register's climate sceptic stuff. It's well thought out and they're clearly not bomb shelter right wingers writing it) Edited April 6, 2009 by analogue wings Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/44390-independent-news-sites/#findComment-1003403 Share on other sites

I like the idea about opposing bias', but your still talking about 2 mainstream views I think, even if I read (in the UK), the Guardian, and the Daily Mail which are pretty opposite, there's still a lot that just isn't featured. Right now I use a combo of bbc news, guardian newspaper and huffington post, but was pretty shocked at how poor some of the coverage has been. You're better off reading the Guardian and the Telegraph, the Mail's just a tabloid with pretensions. I read the Guardian and the Independent more or less every day (my housemate and I buy both for the crossword puzzles we love so much), used to read the Telegraph daily as well, get news online from the Portal of Evil news site: http://www.poe-news.com/ This site just collates links to other news sites, but the real attraction is the comments/forums. They're really funny, but also often incredibly informative with anecdotes and accounts from people familiar with the issues, and it has a system where you can vote for an informative post in the forum and if five people do so, it's ammended to the actual news story on the main page. I've been a regular there for years, still visit daily. Edit to add that POE-news is by no means definitive or exhaustive, and often covers stories of very little importance but great shock/perversion value, whilst ignoring large mainstream stories completely. When it hits, it hits though. dr lopez
I like http://www.realclearpolitics.com/ gives a bunch of different links to both sides. It mainly deals with American news so not sure if that's what you want. Guest Dr. Bunsen Honeydew
http://mediamatters.org/ "Media Matters for America is a Web-based, not-for-profit, 501©(3) progressive research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media" Not really a news source, but its interesting and somewhat relevant. But I thought I acknowledged that in my post, just think it's a better right-wing news source than the Mail, if that's what you're into. Better = less sensationalist Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/44390-independent-news-sites/#findComment-1004638 Share on other sites
Guest blutac
good websites but nothing comprehensive, have we found a gap on the internet!? is that possible every time I think of something I want to see I can find it in 5 minutes googling, but really hit a dead end with this. There's definetly a market for this, anyone got a few million for startup costs and we could really do this properly Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/44390-independent-news-sites/#findComment-1004673 Share on other sites
