Guest Mirezzi
Good times. Very funny. So, I'd say there were two Hollywood comedies this year, Role Models and Tropic Thunder, both of which were vastly better (and more enjoyable) films than Slumdog Millionaire, the crown jewel of crap. autopilot
Is this out on DVD? I kinda wanted to see it. I didn't think Tropic Thunder was that funny, though. There was like 15 minutes of combined "omg hilarious" and the rest was blank stare "meh". I actually thought this was considerably funnier than the entire movie: Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/44394-role-models/#findComment-1003642 Share on other sites

I'll have to see zoolander now, as I agree that Tropic Thunder (what I saw of it, switched it off around 2/3 of the way through) was pretty bland. Guest melotronic
yeah, tropic thunder definitely wasn't anything great to me, a few reasonably funny moments and steve coogan was good. i actually found watching the making-of mock-documentary thing hungover one afternoon was funnier than watching the real film stoned. not a good sign. also the older i get the more i just find ben stiller really fucking annoying. so uh yeah, might give this one a miss Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/44394-role-models/#findComment-1003812 Share on other sites

Guest Adjective
not a movie i would recommend, just a comedy that was okay to pass the time. i really like the red haired guy, although he probably just plays the same character in everything he's in. his roles are always small so he hasn't worn on me yet. i remember him from that news team show with zach galifikaifkaifkaalokjnuss and that guy from upright citizens brigrade, on comedy central imdb says A.D. Miles is his name Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/44394-role-models/#findComment-1004276 Share on other sites

autopilot
Also, I think it's a bit unneccessary to imply there's something inherently wrong with "Hollywood" comedies. Some of the funniest films I've seen are huge mainstream hits. Stuff like Zoolander, Old School, or Anchorman will have the lot of us in tears after a few beers, while indie comedies like Wes Anderson or Coen Brothers films, while exceptionally good films, are more a subtle, contemplative funny, not laugh-out-loud Lizzing funny. The former is usually something we prefer when we pop a comedy into the DVD player.
