Ok so I have an external HD, and it seems unreasonably full. Well, after doing a virus scan for the 1st time in.....ever, I noticed it was scanning a folder called "K:\Recycler" (this folder is not visible when in windows explorer) and within, were folders that i had long deleted. Does anyone know how I can access this mystery folder? There might be something 3 years old that I want now, or just to get rid of it altogether. I'm running XP btw. Thanks if anyone can help.

Keep in mind that I'm using a Danish version of Win XP so my translations of the keywords might be wrong. But if you open your external HDD, you should be able to click on "Functions" and then "Folder preferences/options". Then choose "Show" and scroll down till you find "Hidden files/folders".

That's a normal Windows action - it makes a hidden recycle bin on all drives.

R click Recycle Bin

Hit Properties.

Setup box w/tabs comes up.

On 1st tab put bullet in Global

Hit Apply, OK.

ok, so how does this affect my situation? I don't mean to come off sounding like a prick - I appreciate you doing this, I was just wondering how I can get access to that folder...

you should be able to access it in the way squee said:

in Explorer go to "tools" -> "folder options" -> "view" tab

and under "advanced settings" -> "file and folder" you will want to click on "show hidden files and folders"

This should work unless windows is trying to do something retarded.

My method will also allow you to view the deleted objects, as well as permanently delete them, by using the standard recycle window. When you open recycle bin, the deleted objects will be organized by drive letter.

yeah, i tried all that, with no avail. do you think it matters that the files were originally accessed on a different computer? I wouldn't think so but.... Maybe windows is just doing something stupid. Shut up mac people.

I don't understand why you would want to access that folder to begin with... It's just a folder the recycle bin creates on that drive to store temp files that are deleted off the ext HD.

oh, from seeing the subfolders the virus scan was going through, it looked like some interesting shit I totally forgot about from 2 years ago.
