have you seen the ending? the show used to be the best, up until the horrific 4th season where everything broke down, basic plot points and storylines with character decisions didn't make any sense not to mention the ENDING which absolutely destroyed the entire series in my opinion. I've talked to people for hours about how horrible the ending was and how the show fell apart at the end (due to the writer's strike and several other reasons). i was at the screening for the final episode and *everyone* was pissed off believe me.

the show basically makes you think the writers and producers: know what they're doing, know where the story is going, at least have a basic outline or planned stuff out...except none of it is true. at all. they were just making it up as they went along. it's amazing it worked so well for the first 2 and a half seasons. but then things went very, very wrong.

the ending with the whole "hey lets give up technology" and GOD DID EVERYTHING beware of robots and technology pissed me off in more ways you could imagine. by now making god a direct character in the story (head six&baltar), they basically discounted everything that happened, all the characters storeylines, everything. not to mention starbuck. people were screaming at the screening over that shit believe me. how they could just destroy a character about that. that god did everything. it's really messed

i was disappointed by the ending as well, but for different reasons. some of the problems you have, specifically the god thing, i don't agree with. at first i felt the same way, but then i thought about it and analyzed it a bit and found that it doesn't have to discount anything and it actually gels with the overall story really well. if you really want to talk about it, i'd be glad to tell you what makes me say that and how i arrived at my reading of it, but let's take it to the other thread though...or make a new one. this doesn't really seem like the place for in depth discussion.

i believe almost all TV Shows that appear to have some 'greater importance' are written in realtime as you describe Battlestar was. It's extremely hard to convince me otherwise because well, thats how television has been through out it's entire history.

when people write stories they usually make them up as the go along,

to a certain extent you're right but now to the extent im talking about. it seems like even the general outline for the for say LOST dioesnt even exist at all, most writers deal with on some level a general story outline when creating things no? I don't mean to pick on Battlestar or LOST, i feel this way about almost every serious show on TV.

I recently got into this show Breaking Bad and it started off great, but when the 2nd season started it really felt they had run out of good ideas and were just stretching shit out as long as possible.

I miss the days of stand alone dramatic television episodes on interesting shows, this is becoming much more of a rarity these days. the writers of new shows demand that you invest a huge amount of time into watching it to be able to enjoy it if you don't start it from the very 1st episode.
