Guest fiznuthian
so lately i've been digging the latest atom release, liedgut. i looked more into the guy behind it on discogs, only to realize uwe schmidt has a million fucking releases under what seems like endless aliases on scattered labels. anyone else dig this guy's work and could tell me what else is worth looking in to? i don't even know where to start. makes aaron funk look lazy! bronchuseven
I've not been a serious Schmidt collector for some time, but I still love his music. For a while in the late 90's I was buying everything he released on his own label (Rather Interesting). If I'm not mistaken, all of those cd's were limited to 500 worldwide, and I have a bunch! Of course, a lot of these albums were re-released later on other labels. So these are my recommendations of his stuff from this era: The Naturalist - The Naturalist: this shit is just a crazy collage of glitch-funk nonsense, and I love it <3 Very humorous too :D Erik Satin - Light Music: Uwe doing baroque lounge glitch. Perfect music for whiling away the hours in your abandoned castle, or for writing love letters to 17th-century poets. Los Sampler's - Descargas: before he did Senor Coconut, there was the warped latin glitch of Los Sampler's (which is much better than Coconut). Chock full o' glitched-out Tito Puente samples, which is all you need to know. Lots of funny lyrics too (in Spanish). Best (translated) lyric: "life is like an application, but without the option to save my heart." Flanger - Templates: Collab work with Bernd Friedman; brilliant album! There have been many subsequent Flanger albums, but they all suck compared to this one. It's set up to sound like a lounge music act, only occasionally they'll pull back the curtains to reveal the digital fuckery lying underneath. Lots of funky-ass Rhodes melodies sprinkled throughout. Highly recommended. soundwave
B2 Live Softcore Mu (with Inoue) Real Intelligence 1, 2, 3, VSDN Dots Senor Coconut (for the giggle) Jet chamber collection (with Namlook) Uwe Schmidt is probably one of the most underrated IDM (or whatever) artists around but with as many alias' as he's has he probably wants it that way.
