I get the feeling this one will be noisy. and maybe even listenable.

They said their last 3 or 4 cds were so compromised by the major labels that they finally wanted to release with an indie label again. I'm hoping for a noisier "A Thousand Leaves" type sound also...the mp3 above sounds promising.

I call bullshit, unless we're talking about changing names in song titles, or marketing issues. Clearly they had to depart Geffen to be able to put out really safe and boring rock songs....

2000-2004 seems like they were doing everything they wanted, and Nurse would've been a good swansong.

didn't really like it. i pretty much dislike any song that features kim on lead vocals. i guess i just find her voice unappealing. on the other hand, i love every song with lee ranaldo on vocals. his songs are always the highlight for me (again, this is the case with the eternal), shame that's like 1 per album.

I agree. I almost posted earlier in this thread about how I really like a lot of Sonic Youth stuff but they need to not let Kim sing ever. It's like she goes out of her way to ruin otherwise cool songs.

there are some songs that are good and in which she is singing, but it's by far never her vocals that are making the tracks imo

yeah there is no way to top that album, ever. Murray Street and Sonic Nurse listened to eachother back to back is heaven.

haven't heard eternal yet. been listening to sonic nurse alot though. wasn't always so keen on it but liking it now, its comparable to murray street but not as good imo

and on the point of kims vocal. i like it but i hate her lyrics. she ruins more songs than she makes great but thats the price of greatness. she has a great voice. bull in the heather is my favourite of her vocals maybe.

how does the writing process work in sy? does kimwrite the songs she sings? moore writes the songs he sings? interview link etc?

I really like Malibu Gas Station. The rest of the album is solid, but this song stands out for me, despite Kim singing. I have no quarrels with her voice.
