well it's almost a new decade right. so this could be big

i think also its an interesting sign that Aphex signed Wisp to rephlex, not to say that Shimmering Hour is straight IDM because it isn't but it gives me that same warm 1996/97 feeling from electronic music back then

idm has become the prog rock of the early 21st century.

actually makes a lot of sense if you apply the technical sho offy aspects of most prog rock to the technical showoffy sequencing and processing tricks of IDM. the biggest difference is IDM came out of new musical technology and the curiosity surrounding it

same sort of fans tho...can't appreciate it unless it's 'complex', and 'well produced'.

nevermind the music.

nevermind the bollocks.

ugh idm. it's so stale these days. i don't even really have high expectations of new aphex twin material. considering how quickly i became bored with analord/tuss.

no!

It's the bebop jazz/free jazz for the 21st century....

or the new compositional ("classical") music for the 21st century....

No it's the new punk....

Yep, it's punk rock forever....

and maybe prog rock...

but punk rock hates prog rock...

Ok ok....

VSnares is punk,

Plaid is bebop jazz,

Autechre is free jazz,

and

Squarepusher is prog rock,

but

Aphex Twin is Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Brahams, and Wagner in one person....
