joy division "atmosphere" / boc "ready lets go"

there's a pretty similar sound in both songs. listen to ready lets go near the end and then listen to this:

which sound you talkin about?

that chime-y synth at the beggining of every bar (in the joy division snippet)

Good ear. It sounds as though BoC sampled Joy Division--both sound like descending whole tone scales.

"The unusual effect which can be heard in the background of the track "Atmosphere" is supposedly Sumner stroking a set of chimes and fed through a microphone into a couple of Hannett's AMS delays."

No idea what the source is, I remember reading this on wikipedia, so it could be complete BS. Seems like a good explantion though.

meh.. they could've easily constructed that sound. a lot of octave pitch shifters will have that effect.. as on some Boss boxes
