Maybes maybe the record that changes dubstep for the better. Now, that I've gotten tht pun out the way, I'll explain why. Mount Kimbie, with their first release have mixed a bout four different genres into one EP. Dubstep being one, but hip-hop, ambient, and even post rock are the others. How did they do this? Well let's get to the tracks "Maybes" opens with a guitarish ambience that only hits the dub a few minutes in and continues with a cut-up vocal sample. It's a beautiful tune, but it's only a tablesetter for this EP. "William" brings a piano melody that segues into a dub techno beat. A barely audible vocal creeps up into the mix before the piano returns, then an amorphous hip-hop beat takes over and rides us out. "Vertical" ups the tempo with a hip-hop dubstep blend. Imagine mixing Prefuse's "Desks. Pencils. Bottles" with some Scuba and you have an idea what's going on here. "Taps" follows the same sonic territory as "Vertical", which gets no arguments from me. Hotflush has always explored the edges of the sonci territory of dubstep, but they're taking things to a new level here. An EP hasn't been poised to impact the dubstep scene this much since Burial South London Boroughs. Hyperdub, it's your move.

I haven't heard the whole thing yet... but in the link above their is a sample song to listen... and it sounded really good.

This has been out for months. It is the closest to perfection Hot flush have come. I really wouldn't label it dubstep though, it seems too far removed/evolved.

Yeah, it's pretty far from dubstep proper, but it's coming out of that scene and evolving from that sound. There's about five different genres sharing time on each track here. I really love it. Can't wait to hear more of what they do.
